It was over before it began. We aren’t even trying this year.
You’re right again. They are practicing losing so they can tank.
Probably would’ve won if we had a different manager.

Tell the truth. Do you really care what happened today?
The frustration really isn’t about today. It a continuation of what’s going on in the last year or years until the team proves that it’s on a significantly new trajectory from their on field play, the same frustration continues.

It’s in a different direction. It might take years to overcome the previous incompetence. The draft won’t do that.
I still believe the plan is, see who can cut it this year and then start filling in spots with established players. There’s no use in having a couple of $30 million guys on the team right now when you don’t know what else you have.
I’m probably different from some. I don’t care if they win or lose this year. I just wanna see some young players develop. Who that is, I don’t know. It’s not gonna ruin my day.

Hales had a good inning. Don't know how ready he is. Packey a good inning. He may have a chance to make the team since he is a lefty. Not sure. HS not done much lately
We have to get more than 3 hits a game. Church maybe the starting left fielder opening day if Nootbaar is not ready
Libby a good start but took 39 pitchers for 2 innings. Has got to use less pitches per inning

I know just a spring game and the first.

Yes, it is a new direction. I hope it succeeds. But its not a better (as in better than 2022 and as good as 2011/2013 etc) trajectory until it truly is shown to be better on the field at the highest level. And in the box scores. So for as long as this continues, there's going to be a lot or frustration at some level that the big league team isn't winning, or even hitting as a whole.

At another level, yeah, I'm watching closely to see how many young guys do develop and how quickly (we need to start seeing some supernormal results on the farm from unexpected sources as some other franchises have). But I also find it curious that guys like Fernandez are back and seeing action when we have so many other new options we traded dearly for (in $ if not in talent) while he's certainly not our future.

And the fact that posters are saying Neither he or Matthews will make the roster so we shouldn't care also bothers me. At the end of 2024 nearly everyone here expected Matthews to be making his Debut by this April at the latest - so if he's still not ready, that's another frutration with the outcomes of our developement. Maybe others have already priced that disappointment in, but its still a loss vs what could have and maybe should have been.

I need to see a Lot more progression to truly be encouraged that we are doing enough, fast enough, to not be overtaken by the Reds and Pirates deveoping their own farms even faster and better by using our not so proprietary model even better than we do. Not just incremental improvement here and there in Fitts and Starts.

The first game of spring training is meaningless. If the cards had won people that don’t like the Cardinals direction would say it means nothing but since they lost they think it means something because two pitchers who won’t be on the opening day roster blew it lol
It's CT...

White Sox must be great...they crushed the A's

Fernandez had a good year then a bad year. I’m expecting a bad year and he will sit in the minors.
Matthew’s, who I had high hopes for, had arm trouble last year.
2022 was a decent year. But who expect Goldschmidt and Arenado to age over night. Can’t keep replacing them with trades.

I’m excited for the season. I don’t care if they struggle.
I just want to see some bright spots. If Mo would’ve made one trade where he got a nobody that became a somebody we wouldn’t be in this predicament. He depleted our young players for old players that got old too fast.

Yeah, Mo's trades were a mess. But maybe something else was missing too? I still don't blame him for trading for Goldy and Nado, regardless of how fast they tailed off, because the players he traded, esp for Nado, did nothing for their new team. They aren't missed now.

Trading Randy, Adolis, and Gallen were much more impactful, although most of them have hit FA by now so would we even still have them? Still we could have been a lot better in the meantime or maybe made much better trades years later, cascade effect and all that.

Still 2022 was a great team. It was Oli who screwed up game 1 and ended our season.
Then basically none of our top draftees have done anything for years - Walker, Hjerpe, Thompson, C Davis, Delvin Perez. Carlson should have been a lot more. As well as Gorman outside of 1 year. And seems we missed out in the intl markets as well during a lots of years and didn't get to draft at all in 2017. So bad luck or bad drafting, or not trading high when those prospects did have value and trading others who became good instead, depending on how you look at it. Its probably a lack of better leadership that was the true root of the problems.

So yeah, its been a lot of years of pent up. If JJW wins ROY, that might help a little, but will take a long time before everything is set right in my mind again.

The offense will be better than most expect - unless The Marmot continues to make the stupid decisions which have been become his standard operating procedure.
Hopefully, Bloom will put a stop to it - or quickly fire him.
We shall see.

Hope so, though all teams have some surprises. The key will be if we can have significantly more good surprises than most other teams. That could mean we are starting to gain ground and claw out.

See guys like Griffin, EDLC, Churio, and especially Jr Camireno as examples of elite upside surprises. We need more than 1 at that kind of level to really start to catch up and get ahead with development success.
