If Oli really wanted to win and had other options, he should have left by now

Ever since 2022, ownership's spending on each year's active roster has gone backwards. We aren't focused on winning at the MLB level (and he can only affect the MLB), and he doesn't even have a contract for the years where we might start to compete again.

Same question as was asked for Nado, Willson, Gray etc - why is he happy with losing here instead of wanting to go to a team that has a chance to win? Managers that don't win have an average career that is shorter than some players.

The answer is probably that no one else wants him. That tells me something.

Winning has never been high on Marmol’s priority list. He’s very comfortable with losing and has publicly stated it many times. He was the perfect Mo manager, but not sure what he’s doing here now other than holding it down for the tank year.

When's the last time a manager left his team to go
manage another team? That virtually never happens, you guys are ridiculous.

One thing this board has taught me is whoever is the current manager, many on here will hate him. People will say he is the worst manager ever and will never get another job. The last liked manager was Herzog. The fanbase and most of baseball called Torre clueless until het got to the Yankees (granted this predated this board).

The masses on this board hated LaRussa. He ended up getting another job.

They despises Matheny, and said only the Cardinals would hire him. He got another job.

The board was mixed on Schildt with many hating him. He got another job,

Marmol would have an opportunity to manage again in the majors if he left.

This board isn’t going to be happy with a manager unless his name is Terry Francona.

And they'd want Francona fired too because even he wouldn't be able to make Walker and Gorman hit!

I'd imagine Francona would be able to fish or cut bait in faster than 4 or 5 seasons per prospect. Thats what Tony brought. Talent evaluation in real time.

I Never said to fire Tony. I was sad when he left.

I was mixed on Matheny.

I wanted someone more experienced with both the Schildt and Oil hirings, but I was actually surprised Shildt was fired and never called for that myself. Oli has been the worst of the bunch by quite a bit.

I doubt Marmol is on any teams’ short list of candidates.

But there is no way to tell for sure.

He’s under contract so it’s not as if he can go out and solicit a new job.

Highly unlikely any team wants Marmol but regarding a coach being under contract Leo Durocher was a coach for the Dodgers in 1964 when Gussie Busch met with him and promised to make him Cardinals manager after the season. Then the Cardinals proceeded to win the world series and Gussie offered Johnny Keane a new contract but Keane had gotten word about the plan to fire him and hire Durocher.

Yankees ended up hiring Keane. Cardinals ended up hiring Schoendienst. Durocher ended up managing the Cubs.

Herzog saved Gussie from himself. I'm convinced we would have had more WS wins if Gussie hadn't traded Carlton. McCarver said Carlton was in his car driving to St Louis to sign Gussie's cheap contract when he heard on the radio he had been traded. 300 wins traded away over a few thousand dollars.
