He addressed some pitching in his first moves and acquired added selections for upcoming draft.

Bloom selects 13th in this draft. Usually in drafts, the premier pitchers get taken off the board early allowing some top notch position hitters to be on the board. Look for Bloom to get a big bat type guy with 13th pick followed by more positon guys with several of the multiple picks in the top 80.
Would not be surprised if one of his high picks may be a HS player with elite upside .
Please no more HS guys with higher upside. Get the guys that are proven and don't take 5 years to make it, if they ever do.

Absolutely right, no more draftees who haven't had some post-highschool. The draft is enough of a crapshoot as it is. Even one year in college is hardly enough to get a good reading on a guy. Why waste the pick on a total unknown, and the Cards have done that too much in the past. Just because a guy is a great athlete doesn't mean he can play baseball worth (bleep).

Well, I’d like to have great athletes on my baseball team. If they are great atheletic players, they must excel in something to be considered great. Chances are it’s baseball.

As opposed to a sluggish one trick pony.

Baseball has its own unique skill set. Just because a guy is an "athlete" (i.e. can run fast, is strong, can throw hard, can swing fast with high exit velocity in the cage) doesn't mean they can play baseball at a high level.
They might have a chance to develop, but give me the guys who are refined and polished and are proven base all players.

Don't agree with that dog. Elite athleticism doesnt mean you can be good at baseball. Otherwise there would be lots more baseball players. But of course being an elite athlete and play baseball is preferable. But theres a bunch of guys who aren't elite athletes that can play baseball.

You need to be one of the smartest baseball minds and be the hardest worker at your position. Combine that with athletic baseball talent and you get an elite player like a Pujols or a Yadi or a Goldy.

Combine baseball smarts and hard work with more middling athletic ability and you get a useful but not elite players like a Brendan Donovan.

Who do we have on our current roster who can be described as the smartest and hardest worker at their position in MLB?

I think Winn can be. This is a big year for him in that regard. I add Ozzie to your list. Also, we haven't seen him yet, but sounds like Jj might be.
