Good morning.
So here we go. As of now, all positions are penciled in except left field. So that’s one.
Catcher. My view. Once Herrera does not catch, where does he go. Left? DH? His bat must play. How do we figure this out when only at ST.
Third. All indications are Gorman. Once that changes, where does he go? DH? With Herrera?
Let’s just assume neither Herrera or Gorman stick- what next.
Enjoy.
Once they see base runners stealing Herrera blind at the WBC & in spring games he'll end up being the near F-T DH and possibly given a few games at 1st Base (forget the OF, my dumb idea over two years ago and he looked lost out there).
Norman is going to be the OD 3rd baseman and he should be given the alternative is J.A.G. (Saggese).
Oli can always double switch him out late in games when they're ahead but as long as he hits (BIG ????), then he's the 3rd baseman.
Alright Rock, I'm calling this a bad take!!!!
Herrera will be good behind the plate and will be an All-Star at C. Saggese will earn time either at 3B or Utility IFer and will be getting regular, everyday ABs midway through the season, while producing a la Donovan.
We will go into next year with a group of:
JJW, Winn, Herrera, Scott II up the middle.
We will also have Saggese and Burleson who will nice pieces to have. Church will surprise to and be a quality 4th OFer to have.
This will set us up to go out and get 2 boppers to play either 3B, LF/RF, or DH for next year.
As always, respect your opinion though!!

If it was me I'd be reluctant to move Herrera to catcher because his offense could suffer. I'd give him some spring training reps at 1B to see whether he is better defensively than Burleson. If he can't play 1B then DH. We need his bat.
I'd have Saggesse and Wetherholt at 2B/3B depending on who has the best defense at 2B. OF is a mess. We need a couple guys to step up.

An idea. The team believes two of Walker, Scott and Gorman will emerge. I think that thought is somewhere embedded in this new model.

They're probably going to put Herrera in left until Noot comes back. I'd rather see Herrera be full time DH personally. Gorman will be given 3b probably. He'll either adjust or fail and be gone. I imagine they'll try to put Herrera at catcher but he has a lot of problem with passed balls. I don't look for him to last at catcher but maybe I'm wrong. If Gorman fails they'll probably try Saggese over there.Otherwise Saggese will man 2nd I imagine.
Many course of actions you write. You didn’t mention JJ to third, any action there?
JJ at third would make the best of the MLB rightside infield defense, show stopping. Gorman does not have the reflect-es to play the hot corner, he's better off at second.

See I like to think that too. But the board likes the up the middle idea better.

Gorman is the one with position issues, if he plays put him where he hurts the least. He's going to have to hit cause putting him out there on defense does not work.

I hear ya. I too believe he’s not the best at third, even if he hits, but his best position is second.
To be honest, I’d trade Burleson and put Gorman, a third baseman, at first. The other corner that needs power. If he hits at third, he’d hit at first. Then JJ to third. Second from anyone of the other three.

Honestly, I forgot about JJ. Yeah, that changes things quite a bit. If JJ breaks with the Cards after spring then he obviously will play every day. He has to figure into the equation if he's any where near as good as he appears to be. Gorman will man the other position until/if he fails. Saggese will probably float around the field.
I was born somewhere between a dream and fantasy. My world JJ turns into George Brett. Then, second can be easier manned than third, I’d think.
Looking at the stats...JJ can play 3rd, SS, and 2nd. So he's pretty versatile. I think Gorman is better at 2nd but then again, he's never played it for very long with Arenado around. BTW...I was born 2 months premature and a blackbird flew around my crib and knocked a horseshoe off the wall. (True story). But I haven't brought about the apocalypse yet. LOL Honestly it's just too tiring to do.

I think it’s obvious that the Cardinals want to give Gorman “ one more chance to succeed “!
So, knowing that, are they going to start him out the season at 2B, or DH? Highly doubtful! They will put him at his most comfortable position and that’s 3B where he grew up playing. So, that means, Wetherholt will have to play 2B.
Now, the question is, what if Gorman flops, as many on here expect? Who then gets put at 3B? The reality is, they might just leave him there all season, regardless of the outcome. The other options are to put Wetherholt over there off 2B, and Saggese at 2B, where is a better fielder. Or Saggese at 3B, put knowing that’s not his best defensive position. Going all in on Gorman is really effecting many other players as well. It wouldn’t make good sense to juggle Wetherholt around between multiple positions in his rookie season. That’s something that Mo would do! A lot rides on Gorman and how he plays.

Yea. You’re on it. His play affects several others. Is that a good situation or a bad position to be in.

Gorman has been around long enough and putting up the same - or worse - stats. He is what he is at his point. I'd give Saggesse who hit for good power in the minors a chance. If Saggesse is blocked at third by Gorman then put in in the outfield.

If Gorman is a block at third, we ain’t got no third baseman in the system.

I’m not giving you a good answer but let me throw you a couple of curve balls. Why are we automatically putting Walker in right? What if he shows no signs of improvement hitting? Odds are better than 50/50 he does not. The roster hole in OF is huge.
Secondly I think JJ will be there but what if he doesn’t have a real strong spring? Would they still bring him up? Or if they do the unthinkable and hold him back to squeeze another year out of him?
Honestly there are only three givensWinn at short, Burleson at first and Scott in center ( by default). It’s going to be an interesting spring.

Man I’m sorry. I was looking for a way to slot Gorman and get power at that corner. As an example here, Gorman may cause slotting issues. Defensively.
