I have no problem with an organization setting rules and if I want to be a part of that organization, I follow the rules they set up. I always have the choice to not join that organization if I don’t want to follow the rules they set up. This seems pretty basic to me.
A big plus +1 I smoked marijuana pretty much daily in college when I graduated and was commissioned into the army i immediately stopped and haven’t smoked since then because the army and the job I’ve had since getting out of the army don’t allow it. Once I retire I will get a medical card and start back. He knew he can’t smoke it and participate in the WBC and chose to anyway that’s his dumb choice
Hmmm...this explains a lot. Just joking. It's a stupid rule in this day and age. People can drink themselves to death, smoke and get cancer but they can't smoke a joint. Alas, some parts of the world they might execute you if your caught with or doing drugs. Supposedly we're more enlightened.

It is a wise rule on all days and in all ages.
Recreational pot is destructive in all contexts.
Even baseball.

Less enlightened as a society than any time in history - and that includes baseball.

Yes, it’s ruined my life.
I have lived an honorable and an entirely productive life , Melville. I started the careers of hundreds of people, and I still run three organizations. I’m 72 years old and I’ve been smoking cannabis over 50 of those years.
I am a living refutation of your statement.

I know more people who were messed up by legally prescribed opioids than by pot.

I have heard far , far more stories about alcohol being destructive, than I have marijanna. In fact, i know people who are now able to carry on a normal life because cannibas gummies eases their arthritis to the point that they can finally resume normal, day to day activities.

I agree opioids are dangerous - and certainly could ruin an MLB career.

I agree alcohol can be dangerous - and if my memory is correct David Green is one player who had his MLB career shortened by it.

lol you might be right about that and you’re singing to the choir here. It’s a stupid rule I don’t know why they can smoke it in MLB and get away with it but in WBC they get suspended it’s dumb I don’t agree with it. But the rules are the rules they know the rules going in follow the rules or face the consequences

What about the NBA & NFL? Has it ruined those two sports?

A 33 year old ballplayer with a .267 OBA over his past four MLB seasons? Probably a blessing.

"MLB has permitted the use of marijuana since the 2020 season, which means that Baez did not break any of the league’s rules and will not face any discipline from them."

Huh. I did not know this. Maybe that's why offense is so far down in the league, all the hitters are stoned lol.

And with attacks on the enlightened to boot. It always seems to be a race to the bottom.

Cannabis. Alcohol. Behavior drugs - pills.

Let me ask the board- if your kid is going out every night or weekend, and they partake in a substance, what one would you encourage- IF you must choose.

In this case, Major League Baseball and the MLB Players Association worked together to explore whether Báez could be cleared for the WBC, but those efforts were unsuccessful. MLB has permitted marijuana use since the 2020 season under its jointly negotiated drug policy with the MLBPA, but the World Baseball Softball Confederation – which governs the WBC's drug rules – still prohibits it.

Heres a thought. How many others did quit for 30 days just to comply. Seems the potential users may be high.
