Nats get a gold glove SS making no money..............Cardinals get an offensive upgrade.

Abrams 2023-2025

57 HR
189 RBI's
109 SB's
.249 .310 .426 .736

Cardinals also get a legit lead-off hitter (something Winn isn't) w/a career .325 OB% hitting lead-off or he could hit 2nd behind JJW.

The Cardinals could play JJW at SS and Abrams at 2nd Base to avoid his poor play at SS.

What the Cardinals give up in defense (Winn: +2 DRS/+21 OAA -vs- Abrams -6 DRS/-11 OAA) they make up in offense.
I would not trade Winn, I would extend Winn.

An idea of Abrams for me would tie into the other thread about the roster decisions that have to be made before 2027. At some point over the course of this 1 season, I think you hope that basically the total BTV of the Cardinals system increases with what we got in these trades. That way, this time next year (lockout I don't know) you are looking to basically consolidate that value into major league pieces that might help with the major league roster.

If you ended up with Winn and Abrams on the same team I think you'd look to move one to 2nd or CF, or Wetherholt to CF or 3B. Finding positions for everyone to play would not be hard.

I'm in no hurry to extend Winn unless he shows he can be more of an offensive contributor.

Teams aren't going to be lining up for an all glove, little hit SS when he hits free agency.

Could end up being a big mistake if he's never more than the .680 career OPS/91 OPS+ hitter he's been thus far.

I just let him go through ARB, move on from him via trade in 2028 if there's a better hitting option coming from our minor league system.

If Winn goes into FA w a lifetime .710 ops with 3 GG and elite offense, he will draw plenty of interest.

Seems like If I recall another GG SS with very similar numbers at age 23. He worked out pretty well.

Wasn't Abrams sent down last year for stating out all night at a casino with a 1 p.m. game the next day?
No thank you!!

I forgot about that. Now, I have seen opposing players staying at the Four Seasons gambling late at the casino, so I don’t care much if a young guy did one dumb thing and stayed out too late once. I do believe that I read something along the lines that this kind of thing has been an issue with him, so that would be more understandable if true. And if it is a problem for him, especially with the gambling scandals that are happening now, you may not want to take that kind of chance.
