Agree. If the player doesn't move the needle more than the in-house option. Give the in-house some ABs. Might strike lightning.redbirdfan51 wrote: ↑04 Feb 2026 23:00 pm None of the RH hitting FA OF really do not move the needle. Fermin should be given the first shot as the RH bat in the OF. Cards can always make a move later. Maybe Josh Baez will surprise or Herrera shifts to the OF.
Skip adding Grichuk Enough .210 hitters already.

Agreed. But everyone knows Grichuk, Andujar and Donovan don’t change the outcome in 2026.RamFan08NY wrote: ↑04 Feb 2026 23:22 pmOr, his agent goes back to the Pads and says you need to up it to 5, or he signs with Stl.Hoosier59 wrote: ↑04 Feb 2026 21:04 pmCards offer him 5 mil, he signs in a heart beat, but nice try!Ronnie Dobbs wrote: ↑04 Feb 2026 21:02 pmOr maybe they did, but the player decided that he preferred the situation to the Cardinals.
Let's face it. None of us know how the discussions go. We only pretend that we do.

Re: Skip adding Grichuk Enough .210 hitters already.
The Cardinals have needed a RH hitting OFer for a while now. They have Nootbaar as a LH hitter and we don’t really know when he will be available. They could bring in Grichuk on a platoon bases to play LF but maybe they are counting on Baez to help out sooner than later. He was productive last year in AA. It’s not that far of a jump from productive AA player to the big leagues.
Maybe they start him in AAA to start the year or maybe Baez has a big spring and the Cardinals decide LF at Busch Stadium is a good spot for him. ST hasn’t started yet. If Baez starts strong then why not have him hitting in the middle of the order and playing LF. I think it’s at least a possibility.

Grichuk has the most power Mo ever seen. I’d rather see a nobody play than a never was. Maybe, just maybe nobody really cares about LF. They could get Barry Bonds in his prime and left field and it wouldn’t change the season. How long is it gonna take for people to realize that?Whatashame wrote: ↑05 Feb 2026 01:12 am The Cardinals have needed a RH hitting OFer for a while now. I get the cheapness, but no need to sign anyone at this point. I mentioned trading for RH OF Thomas from the As since they are so light at C.
Trades are the way for now

I think it says they are going bottom up and rebuild. No more updating the old building. Complete new construction. Brand new key.Jobu's Rum wrote: ↑05 Feb 2026 05:09 amI get the cheapness, but no need to sign anyone at this point. I mentioned trading for RH OF Thomas from the As since they are so light at C.

Once established we should attain the goals that both parties here have wanted.

Re: Skip adding Grichuk Enough .210 hitters already.
Maybe not. The Padres also have $2 million in incentives. It was reported that he had a robust market. It looks like he had his pick of teams and the Padres was the best fit for him.
I used to have this argument back in the day when people complained about not getting a better backup for Yadi. These bench players players want an opportunity to get the most ABs they can so that they can showcase themselves for a bigger deal. What backup catcher is going to want to compete for playing time with Yadi Molina, maybe the last ironman catcher we'll see? Not going to happen. What opportunity would Andujar have here? He knows this is a rebuild year. Are we going to give him playing time over Nootbaar or Walker at the corners? Gorman at 3rd? Burleson/Hererra at 1B/DH? I'd think that Thomas Saggese is going to get more opportunities than Andujar to come off the bench in those roles. Even Jose Fermin. Would Cardinals fans really want to see Andujar getting opportunites over any of those guys? Doesn't make sense to me. So why would Andujar want to deal with that? As the Padres compete, they are going to want their RH platoon bat getting in games more often. The Cardinals aren't competing this year. They want to evaluate these young players. And Andujar is running out of years before he has a chance at a relatively big deal for a guy like him.
Either way. Are the Cardinals in 2026 really going to get into a bidding war for a 31 year old with an extensive history of getting injured coming off his best year (playing in the Cincinnati band box)?

Hopefully C. Bloom now shifts to seeking that RHHing OF via the trade route using JoJo + (Noot, maybe a catcher?).
