So hard to keep these kind of kids out of trouble, they are so ignorant with so much to lose and so many opportunities to lose it. I'm surprised this doesn't happen more often. (I know, I own one)
Its very difficult to keep them from being dumb[ash] while also providing the opportunities to make the most of their abilities.
well as bad as it was before it will likely get worse since they now make millions in college
Yeah, that is not as new to us, It has been going on in our sport a little longer than it has in hockey. Not a lot but a little.
One thing that is also becoming pretty prominent in our sport is holding them back a year or 2 before HS so they are more mature going into this stuff. Something I would do if I had it to do over.
He’s not going to prison for a first time felony that was a bar fight. I realize the victim suffered a serious injury, reports of a broken jaw, but that’s not going to land him a prison sentence.
He is going to have to deal with a tremendous amount of hassle and rightfully so. He may end up in a diversion program if eligible, he may end up with some shock time or serious community service hours. He will very likely have to deal with a whole bunch of anger management, psych evaluation, alcohol evaluation and any recommendations for treatment. Probation is a hassle and it should be. If he’s lucky he will be able to plead the felony assault down to a misdemeanor. He might not be so lucky. All depends on how that county deals with these types of situations.
Good chance the incident is on video either thru the bars cameras or some rando with a phone.
PSU should kick him off the team. They probably won’t. And I doubt this hurts his draft stock much if at all.

Big red flag. Ivar is the clear #1 now. And I had McKenna #1.
Too much at stake to risk gambling on that melon. I still believe McKenna has a better tool set, but no thanks.
Oh brother. It’s not a big red flag. 18 year old kids get in fights all the time! There’s no way this hurts his stock.
They do. 99% don't.
You don't take a gamble like that with what's at stake. Then again, you might - considering it's not your money on the line. Let's check back after the draft. I'll eat crow if he still goes #1.
I learned a long time ago to withhold comment until I know all or at least most of the facts. Also there is a vast difference on a lot of elements to a Criminal versus Civil complaint.
So he can throw’’em too? That’s just another tool for his tool bag. I’ll gladly take him on my team. He just put a stronghold on that #1 overall pick. Part Patrick Kane and some Tom Wilson thrown in! I’m sold!
