The prospect of him reaching that ceiling is certainly exciting. You never know!

It also means nobody really has a clue. See Jordan Walker.Talkin' Baseball wrote: ↑26 Jan 2026 09:15 am It's interesting, the wide variations in evaluations of the young players. It really illustrates the value and opportunity available to an organization if they can be more accurate in identifying the prospects and the suspects.

No, it means it is an inexact science, but clearly some teams are better talent evaluators than others.woofy25 wrote: ↑26 Jan 2026 15:57 pmIt also means nobody really has a clue. Every team’s fans think Law has this bias against them.craviduce wrote: ↑26 Jan 2026 10:15 am I do wonder, just a smidge, did Law intentionally leave off Baez to poke the bear. He does like him some Cardinal Fan Conflict. It's been a while, maybe he missed the Vocal Few from the Lou.

He probably didn't do it intentionally....Baez's ratings are all over the place....there's believers, there's those who need Baez to back up the season to prove it wasn't an outlier, and then there's those who feel last season was in fact an outlier.
Oh well...life goes on.
He doesn’t. There are valid reasons for any evaluator to include or exclude him from a top-100 list as his beta is high.

Hoping folks here don’t have a coronary if Doyle doesn’t start at AA or make his MLB debut this year. That’s an awful lot to put on the guy. Maybe start at AA, but I don’t think that’s a lock.ClassicO wrote: ↑26 Jan 2026 10:58 am Quote on JJ:

Quote on Doyle:
“ He’ll probably start in Double A, but don’t be surprised if he debuts this year as long as he stays healthy, with at least No. 2 starter upside.”
Quote on Raniel:
“If he stays a catcher, he’s an All-Star, and if he doesn’t, he might still be one because he’s going to have so much impact with the bat. He’ll be 19 all of this year and if he plays a full season, I think he’ll lead all minor-league catchers in homers.”

I don’t like Montes as a prospect much either. Power hitters with a high K% and low batting average in the minors almost always end up as busts, with very few reaching their ceiling. I do not want to trade an established, good MLB player such as Donovan for a trade package headlined by such a prospect that has a large chance to end up a bust.ICCFIM2 wrote: ↑26 Jan 2026 15:17 pm
A lot of the top power hitting prospects have high K%. Look at Montes with Seattle, their #3 overall prospect and a 55 Grade Prospect, 169Ks in 490ABs but he also had 83BBs. By comparison Baez had 103Ks in 418ABs with 59BBs. Montes had more games at AA than Baez. Both of these guys could be busts, both could be superstars. That is the reason why the Cards need 3 guys like this in the system, they have to hope 1 becomes a superstar even if the other 2 bust out.
Wetherholdt is likely to be Donovan with more pop and perhaps a bit better fielder. I am expecting a guy with an 800-850 OPS with 15-20 HRs a year. Donovan was a 750-775 OPS guy with 10-15 HRs per year. If Wetherholdt does that, he is a fixture for the Cards, a difference maker even if not an other worldly superstar. Baez has a much wider range of outcomes. But, a guy that hit 20HRs with 50+ SBs last year in the minor leagues with 400 ABs should have us all excited about the possibilities. The Cards have a potential 30-30 player which I think would be the first 30-30 player the Cards have ever had. He is a potential other worldly superstar.

and Kiley McDaniel was the most Bearish....50th.
Callis/Mayo and McDaniel thought enough of Bernal to keep him in the top 100th. Cooper and Law didn't
