Yeah, I don't get all the hate for HCDG. The guy has had two really good teams here, and one really bad one. Injuries really hurt that bad team, but of course injuries are part of the deal. I've liked him since he got here. I like his recruiting. I like the fact that he doesn't rant and rave on the sidelines. I like his results (2 of the 3 years). I like the suits he wears. I just like him!

You have octogenarians having to deal with a black man in a position of authority.

It's not that hard to recognize.

Nope, that's stupid. Fans naturally criticize the coach no matter who he is when things aren't going the way they want. If we were on a heater, maybe 17-3 instead of 14-6, the same fans would be saying he is the greatest coach in the history of mankind. Fans also generally think they know more about the talents of individual players than the coach who sees them every day in practice, and knows exactly what he has asked them to do on the court. Fans just aren't very smart, except for me.

Don’t make it an age thing. If one is racist, I doubt they’re much of a basketball fan. As an outsider, it appears Gates runs a clean program. I like how he handles himself during games and with the media. I know next to nothing about his assistants.

I still say that Gates needs to leave! He's a darn good coach that gets more out of less the same way that Pinkel did. His first team as coach here was cheaply put together and they won 25 games and made it to the 2nd round of the dance. People still complained about him and dogged him for losing to Princeton with his thrown together team to Princeton who beat a 4-seeded Arizona in the 1st round. Many so-called fans dogged him out on these sport's forums and a few called him a racist (Slimy) This guy isn't getting the financial NIL backing like Drink and he has to shop in the budget basement for his players. (I was going to name a few players and decided not to) People complained about them losing to Drake the same team that beat Vandy last year by the same amount of points. Follow Iowa today which is the school where those Drake players and coach went to and notice that they are a top 25 team.

We never replaced Bates and Grill and really our talent regressed with the exception of Stone who we were lucky to get, because he didn't play last year with WVU because he was hurt. (Didn't have any suitors) The basketball team needs NIL backing and I hope the new GM will help us get that. Until the team can get that help I will always compare Gates to Pinkel in getting more out of less. (This is my opinion)

Have you not seen all the personal hate and personal attacks on social media? Some are racial. A heck of a lot of people everyday are calling for him to be fired. If he leaves I guarantee you he will be swooped up by a decent school.

Ahhh, ok! No I haven’t seen any of that. Got a link? And besides….thats the norm for a black guy. Always getting the heat and racial remarks getting thrown at them. I’m sure Gates use to that.

It's definitely an age thing. Gates is half their age and has accomplished 100 times more in his life than the OP attacking him on this forum.

That happens just about every where Missouri-south. The dumb dumbs aren't just in Missouri. He just ignores them as all should.

Can not believe that anyone would think that I or really any other post that I have seen from others think that there is anything about gates that we think is a race problem. I do not think race matters to him and I dont think others judge him based on the color of his skin. I will agree that I did think that about our previous coach and I think his life was dominated by racism. I would like for Gates to come out of that little role model he portrays himself as and become a real person and show some flaws, turn it loose, show so emotions be real step on some toes, hell might even try to smile
