If a GM traded Kyrou or Faulk for Kotkaniemi they should be fired. If we traded Buch we just be swapping our problem for theirs but I still need to point that that Buch has been a much better player, not only during his entire career, but even this season where he has been terrible.zamadoo wrote: ↑11 Jan 2026 14:12 pmHe's getting 11 minutes a game when he's in the lineup. Puckpedia has him scratched. They can't be looking for much if any. Perfect chance to send someone like Kyrou, Buch, and/or Faulk for a center who would probably play here and has a chance of being worth his $4.8M against the cap for 4 more seasons through some of his prime years. The Average Gatsby wrote: ↑11 Jan 2026 13:50 pm We could use another center after we trade Schenn, but I’d only take a flier on Kotkaniemi if they were giving him away to clear cap space.

You wouldn't do Kyrou for Kotkaniemi, a young player or two, a nice prospect or two, and a draft pick or two?The Average Gatsby wrote: ↑11 Jan 2026 14:29 pmIf a GM traded Kyrou or Faulk for Kotkaniemi they should be fired. Re: Jesperi Kotkaniemi
Carolina doesn't need or want Kyrou.
If they trade for a winger they'll want someone with size and grit.
Canes top 6 wingers:
S. Jarvis
N. Ehlers
A. Svechnikov
L. Stankoven
T. Hall
J. Blake
The Canes need a legit 2C and a top 4 RHD
They're going to aim higher than Schenn and Faulk but might end up with one of them if they can't acquire one of the bigger names available.
They have the cap space to fill both holes assuming Kotkaniemi is salary dumped in one of the trades.
Remember the main reason the Canes signed Kotkaniemi in the first place was revenge for Montreal offer sheeting Aho.
Marc Bergevin was the Habs GM when they drafted Kotkaniemi ahead of B. Tkachuk & Q. Hughes.

That's kinda what I was thinking. Faulk could be a fit. We might be able to get some good pieces from them.TheHighHat wrote: ↑11 Jan 2026 14:55 pm Carolina doesn't need or want Kyrou.

Another bottom 6 forward. We have plenty already thanks.

Right! One is silver and the other just paper. loltfriede2 wrote: ↑11 Jan 2026 17:32 pmA dollar for 4 quarters? Sorry. But one of the dumbest threads ever. I remember the trolling the hurricanes pr team did to the canadiens after they signed him. Who has the buyers' remorse now? The idea of replacing thomas with kotkaniemi is higher level stupidity. I get things are not good but you all are making leafs'fans look sane.

there was a time that I would have had SOME interest but jonatan Breggren ,Otto Stenberg, and other make less money and can and will be more productive.
Re: Jesperi Kotkaniemi
It's a decent analogy, but in this case both players' stats are as suppressed as bankers have tried to keep the price of silver with their paper futures.wiscrev wrote: ↑11 Jan 2026 17:49 pmRight! With Kyrou, I don't believe we have a silver dollar, or even a Buffalo nickel, and I would rather trade the one fiat dollar, which depreciated the second it appeared, for a selection of shiny coins that could turn out to be real silver upon further inspection.
It makes a lot more sense to move Faulk in this deal anyways, but few other teams can even take a large contract (especially mid-season), so if there's someone who wants Kyrou then I'm willing to explore the options. Carolina has some decent pieces, and once again, more than a lot of other possible destinations might have.
