No, you eat the money you need to. It's not our money and they have the budget for it. He's not needed with what we are trying to do this year. He just takes up space and we have possibilities for the future we need to get playing time.
Who? Who needs playing time at 3b that Nado is blocking, and you can't wait to see play?

Best thing for the "rebuild" is to keep him at third next season.
He gives you yet another black hole in the lineup helping to guarantee another top 5 pick.
Arenado and the OF pretty much gives 4 dead spots in the lineup if Contreras is traded and Burleson has to play 1B.
Some of you guys on this rebuild kick just aren't thinking clearly.

I'm told JJ is 2b. Doesn't play 3b.
We've seen the abomination that is UniKKKorn, and Saggesse?

I agree with you both- if JJ is at third arenado must go. Otherwise it’s his position to lose.

My only true hope in all of this is that if he starts 2026 with the Cards that Oli has the common sense to bat him in the 6 to 9 spots in the order. No pressure to be superstar Arenado and just concentrate on playing baseball. He needs to show he still has a bat to ever see less than 6 again.

No doubt scouty.
Sagesse as a starting 3rd baseman in MLB.

Good write. Do you think he can make himself a .250 hitter focusing on singles and doubles to the gaps and down the lines. Maybe run into 5-10 home runs. With his glove would that work.

Maybe, maybe not. I don't know, but you have three guys for two positions, so I'm guessing that the team would like to have them starting as many games as possible to see what the future holds. Arenado isn't in our future, so he's the odd man out. He put up an 87 OPS+ last year. Gorman had an 88 OPS+ and Saggese had an 82 OPS+, so they might not be great, but they're not far from Arenado offensively. It's a low bar, but I want to see if they can clear it.

Might not be that far away from arenado offensively; but if arenado rebounds any at all, the gap widens. And then the glove plays.

Nado will finish his contract as a Cardinals.
Looking forward to the returns the birds get from noot donny WC. Heck even just one traded would be outstanding.

I think he ends up on the Angels. We eat some money, we get a marginal prospect back and call it a day.

I think there are other options teams will consider first. He may not get traded or maybe a trade deadline trade. He is too expensive and it may not make sense for Cardinals to eat a lot of $’s. I have always wanted to get rid of him but with Donovan trade 3rd base options get limited. Personally I’ve totally given up on Gorman
This. Gorman won’t even hit as well as Arenado this year.
And Gorman’s “defense” is laughable.
But let’s pay $20 million or more so that Arenado can go play for another team, while they give the job to Gorman.

I don’t know. You think he’d rather go there than stay here. Even with the persistent rumors and trade desires.
