I think 2006 and 2011 taught Mo the wrong lessons. You can have a solid team that piles up wins against lesser teams, but you have to have enough elite talent to contend. That with experience helps as well.Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑15 Dec 2025 08:15 amI would add number 5 and say bloom actually has a plan and a direction and it’s not just hope to squeak in somehow and pray for miraclesramfandan wrote: ↑15 Dec 2025 07:52 am https://redbirdrants.com/4-ways-chaim-b ... mistakes/5

In 2006, the Cardinals still had good leftover experience of 2004-2005 and enough elite talent. Yes, they snuck in, but their team was better than their record. They got healthy at the right time.
2011, they were a team with good elite talent that gelled at the right time.
Anyway, the lesson that Mo seemed to take away is build a team that has a decent shot of make the playoffs (and somehow they could magically go on a postseason run).
Arguably the Cardinals in 2019 had a more balanced team than the nationals. But in the playoffs, they were no match for the Nationals. The Nationals could hide their biggest flaw-the bullpen-behind their deep SP. Once they hid that flaw, they were clearly the better team. The Nationals BP outside of their setup and closer were bad. Once they hit the playoffs the could shift some SP resources towards it and had and extra days off the limit their usage.
Anyway, hopefully Bloom understands the difference. To some degree all sports are like this. Nice talent can get you in the door, but elite talent matches with other elite talent.

I agree with everything here but I think a big part of 2006 and 11 was thanks to having Tony LaRussa in the dugout. He put players in a position to succeed.RichieRichSTL wrote: ↑15 Dec 2025 10:46 amI think 2006 and 2011 taught Mo the wrong lessons. Here's a few more.
1. Working instead of hibernating through the winter.
2. Having a plan that isn't half-[ashed].
3. Not looking, speaking, or acting like a jackass.
4. Targeting young prospects instead of old geezers or never has been.
Mo was an idiotic putz.

Re: 4 ways Chaim Bloom is already rectifying John Mozeliak's mistakes
Bloom is rectifying the MO Rans mistakes! Definitely a positive. To be honest any competent MLB exec hired after MO Ran would/could have implemented many or all of the points contributed.
The acquisitions, to date, are ho hum. May, Fitts, and Clarke are annual members of the MASH unit. MO Ran rumor of extension is definitely NOT a generator of fan enthusiasm. Issues of Donovan, NA, Contreras, Marmot, and over hyping of Herrera and Burleson are not what the organization need. Solid MLB acquisitions to complement Wetherholt is the only positive solution or its business as usual with just different focus.
Skill and will.

1. Calling out errors. The manager and coaches in St Louis were previously in charge of development in the Cardinals minor league system and Bloom is retaining them.
2. Great idea so long as they are good. I'd be inclined to spend on scouts and staff in the Caribbean.
3. Good idea.
4. Dump and rebuild is the opposite of urgency and requires patience.
