Agree with you on the Burleson for Benge. They could use Burleson in LF or 1B.

If you were to be able to make that move then moving Donovan for pitching isn’t needed as much. You add to your pitching depth by trading Burleson instead of Donovan and Donovan can play 3B which helps your infield.

Things are still murky until we get some resolution with Donovan or in this case Burleson. Financially, Donovan and Burleson are similar.

Here’s a thought, make that move, trade Contreras for some pitching, and extend both Donovan and Burleson.

If we could get a Benge, a Witherspoon from Boston, or another high end pitching prospect for Contreras, that would be fine too. IMO, I would be looking to move Contreras anyway. Not knocking Contreras but he won’t be offering much when this team is ready to compete.

Donovan has excellent interest and excellent trade value. Burleson has good interest and good trade value. Contreras has some interest and some trade value.

I totally agree. This is all about the return. Move Contreras, move Donovan, move Burleson, whatever brings the best return. Move two of the three, move all three if the return is there.

I happen to think that 1B might be the best option for Herrera or Gorman so Contreras is kinda just in the way. Burleson to a lesser extent although he can play the outfield. Build that high end starting pitching base up. Our middle infield is set with Winn and Wetherholt. Our catching should be fine between Crooks, Bernal, Rodriguez and possibly Herrera. Scott is a good defensive CF. We need to address the corners (1B, 3B, LF, RF). By 2027-2028 with a couple more high end pitching prospects through trades this winter, we could have a really strong base.

A couple of teams this opens up for the Orioles; the Marlins have major league pitching to trade and need a 1B and the Twins have some upper minor league pitching they could trade if the would, for Ryan Mountastle. They also need a 1B. I doubt that Boston is trading young pitching to the Orioles.

Looks like the Orioles were also after Schwarber. They offered him the same amount of money he took to return to Philadelphia.

Was Alonso their Plan B?

Pirates are ready to spend....their rebuild is nearly complete. Baltimore tried competing the last 2 years...they want better bats.

We're not at the same stage as the O's and Pirates.

I'm not giving excuses about small market/mid market/large market.

Our team sucks right now, the old kids aren't producing outside of Donovan and Herrera....the new kids aren't ready with exception Wetherholt.....we're just not ready.
