Baseball is always better when the Pirates are relevant. Blue collar city, with perhaps the nicest stadium in baseball. Would be nice to see that stadium full of fans again.

It's possible they are offering just enough to placate their fans and to ensure he won't sign with them. They also "pursued" Naylor.

If he accepted the offer the pirates would likely be looking to trade him at the earliest possible date which I think is June 15 for a recently signed free agent. Perhaps their owner has changed but I'm skeptical.
