I think there's only 1 person on this board who believes "Fitts" is here to help the Cards be a contender. He's here, "hopefully" to fill innings. And that's a gamble at best. I hope he does.

False. Halfassing down the middle is why we are here
I agree. Wouldn't it be wonderful to get two young, proven MLB players in trades each of the four I mentioned? What trades like that do you propose? Maybe a Donovan trade could bring that.
I don’t think you’re getting high ceiling mlb ready prospects for those guys.
That's why I said getting something on the likes of the Gray trade might help compete in next season and in the rebuild. However, from what I;''m reading, it setting up for Bloom to get a bonanza return for Donovan. I would settle for nothing less.
if you would settle for nothing less, then why the "Less" OP's?
Run, Marshall, Run
Get your Gooners ganging up again. So typical of you weak sisters.
not really an Arsenal fan. Not even my league of preference. I'm a Dortmund fan. Bundesliga!!!!!

With more trades like the Gray trade. If he can trade Donovan, Contreras, Nootbaar and Romero for a combo of a young MLB ready player (Fitts) and a high level prospect (Clarke) in those trades. I don't expect much return in an Arenado trade.

The Cardinals need to get the maximum potential they can from trading Donovan in particular. You get the maximum potential by also taking some risk - so you get more potential in AA/AAA prospects than players who have proven themselves for 2 or 3 years in the majors

Haven't you heard Duce? The Fitts trade alone has Bloom up already for "Utility" G.M. of the year!

Agree I think blooms strategy will be to bring in a lot of competition to compete for rotation spots he’s definitely going to sign at least one starter possibly two

The Rule 5 route concerns me...keeping a R5 starting pitcher on the roster is tough do...can't hide them, not like a BP piece or a Bat. BP piece if they don't work out, you don't mind losing them to their original team....you can replace them easily enough. A starting pitcher, though...that's tough to replace. You're putting a lot of faith in your AAA pitchers producing and being ready....Thankfully, we have a some good AAA talent in the Memphis rotation....I would imagine at least 1 of them amongst Mathews, Henderson, Mautz, Robberse, Rajcic will be ready by June to fill any needs that might arise from the MLB rotation. It's not out of the question that a 2024 happens all over again....where everyone one not named Michael McGreevy gets hurt in Memphis...not a great chance, but we've seen it happen.

Duce,
What happens with Curtis Taylor and Ian Bedell?
Also, who do you think will be the 5 or 6 in the Memphis Rotation and who will be our everyday players there? (Any guys you are certain will start in Memphis?)

Taylor elected Minor League FA. Bedell is still with the Cards and once again R5 eligible. This will be his 3rd time...it would be a very bad move by any MLB team. Too injury prone.
If Mathews doesn't break camp:
1) Mathews
2) Henderson
3) Mautz
4) Rajcic
5) Robberse (re-signed to a Minor League Deal after being removed from 40man)
6) Bedell or Hansen....depending on which one is with the Cards system after the R5 draft next week.
I expect we'll sign some Veteran Minor League FA...I expect we'll sign a lot, actually. We lost around 8-10 Minor League FA's in early November....most of them were pitchers and most them were with Memphis.

Will the team contend? Not sure..
But I can definitely see Bloom building a team that can will 75-85 games.
When it’s all said and done, I don’t see this team as a pirates. I see them akin to the 2024 season.
