Arroyo is apparently transitioning to playing OF.
Is it corner OF or centerfield. And I guess Sloan would be leading the package. Farmelo is a centerfielder maybe we would rather have him than Arroyo but Farmelo is truly a wildcard I would say. I think I would consider the upside of Farmelo perhaps more appealing than Montes.

I'll ask you this

Would you rather have

Sloan (SP, A+) + Arroyo (2B, AA) from SEA
Or
Ryan (SP, MLB) + Sirota (CF, A+) from LAD

I think I'd rather have the package from LAD that you brought up a few days ago.

I'm not sure I like that. To me that makes him look less desirable than Jhostynxin Garcia.

BTV has Arroyo (+20) as considerably more valuable than Garcia (+7.8).

I suppose they believe the bat is that serious with Arroyo. A power bat with plate discipline skills, but Arroyo is smaller in stature (5-10 160) than Garcia (6-0 160). It's an interesting template of player. Well, we had Tyler O'Neill who was also a compact, 5'10" power hitting corner OF. Maybe that's something similar to how they project Arroyo but hopefully with better contact/ plate discipline skills.

I would rather have the Dodger package. Ryan is very good, MLB ready, and has his TJ out of the way. Sirota has a higher floor and a higher ceiling than Arroyo and is a more well-rounded player. He will not be long for the minors.

In their, I guess, mid-2025 rankings, FG had Arroyo as FV 50, #4 for Seattle and #62 in MLB and they had Sloan as FV 45+, #9 for Seattle, and out of the MLB Top 100. They seem to be expecting Sloan to move up to FV 50 as well.

Part of his value is that they consider his positional profile to be 2B/SS and not OF.

Due to injuries, I guess, Farmelo has yet to play much. His numbers aren’t very appealing, but obviously he’s got talent to be ranked so high. He showed good speed prior to the injury.

Arroyo has shown good on base skills, while showing a little bit of power for his frame. ( 5’10”, 160lbs) the question then is, can he transition to the outfield. He is from Colombia, is there a Renteria connection? He bats right handed.

Montez is ( 6’5”/210lbs) out of Cuba. He has good power, but strikes out a bunch. He does draw walks, however. In 25, he had 83 walks / 169 K’s / 32 HRs / 89 RBI’s / .241 .avg / in 490 at bats. Unless he’s a complete butcher in the outfield, he would be a nice pick up. He does bat left handed though. However, if Donovan and Nootbaar are moved, that’s not as much as an issue.

The Dodger prospects talked about, River Ryan, and Mike Sirota.
Ryan is 27yrs old coming off of an injury. He definitely has upside, but I’d probably prefer, Sloan over him.
Sirota is 22 yrs old, CF’er, that bats right handed. His lone minor league season, he .333, in 59 games. His OPS was 1.068. He only stole 5 bases, but still has some speed. He walked 48 times to 59 K’s in 246 at bats. Both reasonable for his first year in professional baseball. He would seem to be better than any of the Seattle trio. So the Mariners deal, or the Dodgers? I say Seattle, just because of Sloan. 19 yrs old with a 6’5” frame, speaks future #1 starter.

Montes seems to come around the 2nd year he spends at each level (kind of like Gorman did). This past season, the move to AA really exploded his plate discipline numbers (35 walks - 86 strikeouts). Montes seems like a true TBD type of prospect.

Sloan would give us a 2nd pitching prospect with very very high upside just like Brandon Clarke. That would be very valuable.

In reference to your other post, us Cardinal fans should get excited at any vague hint of a "Renteria connection" 8)

IMO Sloan will turn out to be a better pitcher than Clarke.

I can fully understand your position.

Here is a thought to ponder. Ryan is much older all true. The control though on both
is very close when it comes to the MLB. Sloan throwing MiLB innings doesn't improve the
MLB team. You get a similar window unless Sloan signs a contract that extends him.
Now just as Sloan is throwing MiLB innings that do not matter, will the 2026 innings
matter that Ryan throws?
