As a 40 year DFW resident, I prefer KC. But it comes down to what your go-to BBQ is. For me, it's pork. KC, hands down. However, if good, succulent beef brisket it your thing, it's hard to top Texas, and we have some of the best here in the DFW area.
Drummer, you anywhere near Richardson north of Dallas?

I worked in that area for about 12 years in the 80s and early 90s. There was a place on Richardson road coming out if Dallas called Bob Willy's BBQ. Ever eat there? Best pecan pie I ever tasted. The BBQ was top notch as well.

I worked in Richardson from '84-'95. Don't recall Bob Willy's. Looks like I missed out because it doesn't seem to be around anymore. My go to place back then was Back Country BBQ on Greenville Avenue near Northpark.

I’ve been in TX 31 years now. 11 in suburban Houston and 20 in suburban San Antonio. I agree with Brummer — I prefer KC BBQ. I like pork BBQ better than brisket which is big down here. I also prefer the KC BBQ sauces better than the ones down here. Back when I worked at the big Amoco refinery in Texas City, I enjoyed a place called Grand Prize. Their BBQ was great!

Rudy’s here in San Antonio ain’t bad either.

Since I’m semi retired, I consult with Burns & McDonnell in KC. Typically get up there 2-3 X per year. Jack Stack’s BBQ in Overland Park is pretty good.

Unfamiliar with that particular place. Found mine by accident looking for a quick lunch and made the trip from the HEB (lived in Bedford) area quite a lot after that lunch. Too bad it isn't still open. They had great ribs and brisket and the aforementioned mentioned pecan pie. 😎

Rudy's is the best Texas chain BBQ, in my opinion. Their creamed corn is a side to die for. In metro KC, Jack Stack is great. So is Oklahoma Joe's in Overland Park. Just don't bother with Arthur Bryants, unless it's just for the experience.

Dallas win would be nice regarding playoff implications.
Always been Dallas. More recent history being that Jones was the architect of the Rams moving. It doesn't happen is Jerry doesn't intervene and make it happen.
Hunt was also a major force behind the Rams' move back to LA. Screw the Chiefs.
the Rams moving to LA was a good/great move for the NFL - get over it guys!
Was it? Caused a riff between owners that still exists and runs deep. Many are not at all happy with StanK. Many owners now having to foot more of the the bill for their stadium funding than previous due to his antics. Not to mention every Rams “home” game is like a road game. And any future move of a franchise is going to be severely limited because of the lawsuit. Fact is there was an easier route and a more profitable one for the NFL had they not acquiesced to Stan, the results of which will still be lingering long after Stan’s toasty setting in the afterlife.
so now owners paying for more of their stadiums is a BAD thing ?
It’s bad for the owners. You stated it was a great decision by the NFL. I merely indicated it has not been the great decision some thought it to be originally. It cost them 3/4 of a billion $$$ to STL and the costs will continue to rise as owners negotiate future stadium deals.
it was amazing for the league as a whole - I don't care about the owners at all - do you think the league would be better if the lambs were still in STL playing at that old pile of a stadium instead of the greatest stadium on the planet ?
Take that [shirt] somewhere else. They shelled out 790 million because they had a relocation plan they didn't follow. The fix was in and we got (bleep). Period. End of story. I have a feeling you know that's a sore spot in St. Louis. Go back to Cards Talk (bleep). [fork] Stan Kroenke. [fork] LA. [fork] SOFI. [fork] the Rams. [fork] You.

I like the OT bbq talk. We’ve probably been in similar territory Hazelwood. So I grew up in U City, and after I graduated from MU, I got a job in Kansas City and lived there for over 30 years. I was there during the glory years of the Royals with George Brett and then I became a Chiefs fan.
They’re the only team that I will pay attention to in the NFL.
I always considered the Rams as a transplant team that didn’t take. I was never there for the football since the Cardinals left for Arizona.
Now let’s get to the real subject of interest; barbecue-Kansas City versus Texas. It’s just completely different kind of meat. In Kansas City, everything seemed to be thin sliced. The Bryant’s Original sauce was gritty & nasty - and the original place wasn’t that clean in the day. But we did love going to Gates and their sauce was pretty good. A little bit on the spicy side. Their meat was very thin sliced also.
And that’s a difference of at least the old-time Kansas City barbecue to all the Texas BBQ I’ve had, where the meat is cut thicker. It’s brisket versus sliced meat here in Texas.
My favorite thing about Rudy’s here is that I asked for the meat extra lean and inside cut. That means it’s more lean and without the black around the edges.. You can also ask for it moist and they weigh it so you do get to pick the amount you get. That’s the best part about the meat. It’s thicker and you don’t get the extra weight of fat if you don’t want it. But the barbecue sauce is a bit spicy. It’s OK and we got used to it but my favorite is actually is KC masterpiece as far as buying barbecue sauce here.
So that’s my $.50 opinion. What I do have 2 Grandson in San Antonio, and Brummer, I’ve met up in Dallas . Nice fellow everybody have a good day. Gon Blues. Forget the NFL.

I'm really going to step in it. I like Carolina style. I've loved the mustard based sauces since trying it.

Hi Russ,
I agree — KC Masterpiece is one of my go-to sauces. I also like Stubbs BBQ sauce which is common here in San Antonio supermarkets, and is similar to KC Masterpiece. Stubbs has 3 or 4 varieties. My favorite is their “Sweet Heat”. Despite the name, it’s not very hot at all, but has just a little bit of heat which seems just right to me.

I live about 3 miles from the original, first Rudy’s which is in Leon Springs. It’s an old hole-in-the-wall building, with a small store and 2 Valero gas pumps out front. I would imagine 40 years ago Leon Springs was probably just a little wide spot in the road, but it’s now been swallowed up by the suburbs growing north of SA. All the rest of the Rudy’s in Texas are in relatively modern buildings, but the one near me is a real throwback to the “good ol days” of ranch hands and Friday Night High School Football. (I capitalize that since it’s a religion down here! :P )

Hazelwood-my grandkids are into that TX football-not me.
We are a long ways from St Louis and Mo where they got hit with 6 inches of snow today. (That much for the 1st time in 7 years I hear).
They seem to like a lot of Sweet Baby Ray’s around Austin.
I’ll try Stubbs next, and maybe others reading this will try it.

As for hockey, the HEB Center in Cedar Park does not have a bad seat in the house.

The rams took fine. They were garbage for over a decade. Literally garbage

And still had good TV ratings and ticket sales.

Look at the cardinals attendance now. That c1a'an barely fill half the stadium. As of now the 2026 team is going to be garbage and they will struggle to get 20,000 fans a game if they do even worse than 2025 which they had a winning record albeit barely for 2/3rd of the year and we're 47-38 on June 29th.

My point is with just a few years of being average and one really bad year the cardinals have lost literally half their ticket revenue and TV ratings are 60% lower than 10 years ago. 75% lower Than the 2000-2013 period. While some of that is changing culture and mediums. Those fans will come back when excitement of winning and star power returns.

The blues in 2005-06 had games with 6-8K fans in attendance. I remember games with entire sections almost empty. It took almost a decade to get back to genuinely selling out games with premium prices.

My point is the rams had a great fan base here.

Even after all that losing just one year of a 12-4 or 11-5 season would have had sell outs by the 4th game.

The rams fans were straight fycked over. The rams more than stuck here.

Even with the horrible teams they stil had daily local news updates from rams park in the preseason.
