Well he knows/believes it was the biggest mistake of his career. The most costly as well on multiple levels.

Petro publicly stated that he didn’t feel respected…and I think this hurt him most because he has ultimate respect for him in real life. His emotions, ego and perceived success got the better of him and cost him dearly

I could be mistaken, but I thought he went off and Holloway came on
I think Kyrou got picked a little bit, but then he turned and skated to the middle of the ice where there were no Devils and left Fowler with a choice of 3 guys to take.

Ugh, that extension... Will likely end up worse than Leddy's. Was just completely unwarranted and unnecessary.

For a GM who's made so many masterful moves, it's hard to believe he's made so many clunkers.
What was concerning about Fowler was that he got used to playing in a losing culture with the Ducks that clearly lacked accountability and playing meaningful hockey games year after year.

Many players will overachieve and run on extra adrenaline after a mid season trade. Look at what Sammy Blias, Kapp, and Vrana did with the Blues in the final 2 months of that season. Both Blais and Vrana scored at a 40 goal pace and both are out of the league now. Kap paced around 50+ points and of course is singing short league minimum contracts rights now

Why not see how Fowler does this season since you have him under contract. It’s not like he would demand much more than he got at his age if he had a really solid year….no way he was going to keep the pace of last seasons points.
Boom!! Best post I’ve read in quite a while. That extension wasn’t necessary at the time it happened. If he played great this year, fine, negotiate an extension. If he regressed, which he has, you have a veteran LHD to trade at the deadline for some assets. Army now has no assets, and a guy who will not be getting better when that extension kicks in. It was the EXACT same thing he did with Buch and both are mistakes.

This is a big maybe.

Maybe this, maybe that.

But to come down and declare this right now is just premature.

80% of this team is afflicted right now and other than stating that their future as a team and individuals is just not determined.

Don’t want to get in another eternal argument with you DH. I see you as an eternal Blues optimist, which is awesome….a true fan. I also love my Blues, but try to take more of an objective view on players/team. Our prior disagreement over Peru was similar. You were all in and I felt he would never make it as a productive full time NHL player. Neither of us were rooting for him to fail.

Same here. If you look objectively, the finish Fowler had with the Blues last year was statistically the BEST of his entire career, given he had an offensive outburst above .70 PPG. Never hit that level prior. This year, he’s so far back closer to .45PPG and hasn’t been great defensively. And his extension starts next year, not this one. Buch is similar. Was a point per game player the first two years we had him. The next two years were around .75 PPG and this season is an abysmal .42 PPG through 24 games. He’s literally pacing toward 35 points in the 1st year of a 6-year extension.

So yeah, maybe this and maybe that. But objectively, my opinion is that neither of those extensions were wise, especially Buch. Again, admire your optimism and only time will tell if that is more astute than looking at players without my blue blood in my eyes. We agree on one thing….80% of this team is underperforming right now.

Well I actually agree with most all of your sentiments regarding what is happening and what we are seeing and sure I could be as wrong about Fowler as I was with Peru but point being on Fowler is simple...it's too early to make any serious projection of his long term downfall right now, particularly so due to how poorly the team is playing as a whole.
