Is this the year where the Cards finally figure out that Tink needs to be in the bullpen? He could turn out to be one heck of a closer. The guy has electric stuff but his durability is non-existent. I just don't see him ever being a major league caliber starter. Thoughts on a cold, windy day in the Lou?
My thoughts were perfect 3 years ago when I was the only person on the planet who correctly advised trading Hence when he was wildly over valued by STL and other MLB teams.

I was all for giving him one last year to try to be a starter last season since the cardinals weren’t going to win anything anyway and he wouldn’t have helped the team anyway but he showed he can’t do it again so he should go to he bullpen. He could start in the majors in the pen next season. Although I doubt that will help him anyway with his injury history he will probably be like Reyes a few half seasons in the majors in the pen the rest of the year on the IL then out of it
Yep - one wonders how you avoid these injury cursed types. Roby and Hjerpe and some others have had it bad too.
You can avoid them by going after primarily the pitch to contact losers the cardinals are used to going after. The big arms often have injury risks. Last season the cardinals had a very healthy rotation it just sucked because they didn’t have any big arms just the pitch to contact losers
Call pitch to contact guys losers all you want. I'd rather a guy take the ball than spend his entire career on the IL.

Too injury prone to count on him for anything.
This is the problem. I don't see him ever lasting a season at the major league level.

Same here. I don’t think it matters whether he starts, throws middle relief, set up, or closer. Im afraid he will be an IL regular his whole career.

You may be 100% correct. But I know he hasn't been able to get thru many innings as a starter. Might as well try him as a short innings reliever. See if he can close. What do they have to lose by trying? Who knows, he may surprise us all!

I've been saying for over two years now, turn Hence into a CLOSER!
He's got an upper 90's fastball and a great changeup, think D. Williams type.
Hopefully C. Bloom and his people do this after they exhaust every opportunity (and they may already be there) for him to still start.
He's been in our system 5 years and made 68 starts. 257 IP. Chris Carpenter did that in a single season including playoffs. If he's not starter material after 5 years of seasoning, how will he ever be?
Carp was a beast but I don't recall him ever making 68 starts in a season
I would believe Gibson had 68 complete game shutouts in one season before I would believe Carp made 68 starts in one season.

No, let's don't. Lol. There's a difference between pitch to contact and pitch to hard contact/BP throwers.

Rock, I do remember you saying this back in the day, now that you mention it. Kudos! Just going for that one inning would have to decrease that stress on his arm and thus maybe the chance of staying healthy. This starting gig isn't his thing imo.
Thx zuck
And you're spot on, the starting gig isn't his thing.
Hope the new regime makes this switch, likely after they give him one more shot at starting.

I just think the Cardinals, especially Mo, were so desperate to have developed a top of the rotation starter, that they kept trying Tink in that role. It’s been pretty obvious for awhile that that wasn’t going to happen, but, again, they were desperate!
Hopefully Bloom and his bunch will see him as a short reliever and try him in that role, if he is ever able to pitch again.

He is among a few that IF a trade
is happening and you need an additional
piece to increase your return you include
to get that higher return.
