I personally feel that Pozo is overall a better player than Pages. I understand why he wasn’t protected, but I don’t understand the Pages love. With Herrera, Crooks, and Bernal, I feel like you have to take the Pages toy away from Marmol as he can’t help himself from playing Pages too much.

Sounds there is mutual interest between the Cardinals and Pozo in him returning next year.
oh really? Like a minor league contract? Bernal, Linarez, Pozo trio would be incredible at Memphis

It was an article about the non-tenders, but Goold didn’t really elaborate. They term he used was “mutual interest,” but that could mean a few different things, and dependent on how the offseason shakes out. If I had to guess maybe it is dependent on if the Cardinals were to trade Pages or Crooks this offseason, then maybe it’s a situation that could make sense if he was brought back.

I hope he’s back somehow. What a great story and someone easy to root for. Also a great pinch hitter.

Couldn't this have been done before the Rule 5 picks? Maybe could have saved Blaze and Hansen???
yes but ylu dont necessarily wamt the 40 man to be full because you will have tomake free agent signings in the offseason- etc- and then you have to waive someone from your 40 man.
if you leave someone unprotected in the rule 5 draft, the claiming team has to keep them on the mlb roster all year.
meanwhile, if you instead add blaze jordan to the 40 man, but then we sign several free agents and run lut ofn40 man spots andnthusnwaive blaze jordan from the 40 man- then the claiming team now only has to claim him to their 40 man to take him from us- not keel him on their mlb roster the whole year.
so it makes sense to leave some 40 man spots open in the offseason instead ofnjust protecting extra guys only to have to waive them later as other teams might be willing to claim them to 40 man but not willing to carry them on mlb roster all year.

There is a good chance both don’t get picked and we get to keep them without burning a 40-man roster spot. We also need 40 man roster spots for trade additions, Wetherholt and any free agents we sign this offseason.

King (~$2.1M) and Alcala (~$2.1M) were likely dropped to save some cash or just create some turnover. I think they are more valuable than Koperniak or Roycroft.
The Cards have only 17 pitchers on their 40-man roster and Hjerpe, Roby, and Hence probably won't be available by opening day so that leaves only 14 pitchers.
The Cards may add Mathews but they can wait until opening day to do that and they can put an injured pitcher on the 60-day IL to make room. Possibly all three above may be 60-day IL candidates by opening day and perhaps others will get injured in ST and join them.
Also, most of last year's Memphis staff is already gone. Lots of Springfield guys ready to move up though.
This team is definitely short on pitchers at the moment. Lots of offseason to go...

I definitely understand dumping pozo the cardinals have too many catchers already but man his .345 .885 OPS as a pinch hitter was nice and he came up with some big pinch hits
Pirates or somebody will give him a backup job. He's pleasant and confident hitter
He could try to buy a nice big sedan to house his family and maybe use it to run some type of off-season painting business or something. An old Buick Park Ave might work.
Not funny

In all serious he was a good hitter and I'm surprised they cut him
