Donovan was an all-star because every team gets one. Arenado bats 6 on a horrible team. Gray is a #3 on a descent team. A blockbuster trade would be something that makes the Cards relevant again. If Sonny Gray was packaged with other Cardinal major league roster players , might that earn 'blockbuster' ?
I am thinking Bloom will make some deal MLB Network 'insiders' ( Heyman, Morosi, Olney ,Nightengale etc . ) designate as a blockbuster. What about you ?
This is what has me pessimistic about the rest of this decade. Which of our top 10 prospects came from the return on prior veteran trades? I don’t think any of them. Translated: The Cards will field a AA, AAA and AAAA roster of basically minor league talent this season. They will sprinkle in just enough mediocre veteran starting pitchers to cover the never ending innings that the rookies can't cover because they don't have stamina to do so at this point in their young careers.

Your first paragraph does you a disservice. If it’s blockbuster, it’s big to every one regardless of their feelings toward a deal. Blockbuster stands for special events. No big deal to another, doesn’t fit the blockbuster narrative.
