We can’t stop anyone defensively. Give up 51 in the half. Absolutely zero defensive effort and doesn’t seem to be much will to stop anything.
Yuck. OK Gates, this is your coaching and teaching moment. Use this to get their attention. The message is, you’re no where near good enough to play half hearted defense. You either bring it, or you get humiliated tonight. What’ll it be?
Had a basketball coach who taught me a long time ago, offense is a skill—defense is will. Mizzou sure likes to get out and run but to put in the dirty work and stop SEMO from scoring, just isn’t there.
Mizzou is easily the biggest, most athletic of the two teams. The most skilled of the two teams but that doesn’t mean squat without the defensive work ethic. Shoot 63% in the half and down 5. Ridiculous!!
Looks like Gates gave the team a good talking too. Offense seems to go through Phillips, when he gets the ball everyone stops and watches, lots of individual play.
Zero defensive effort to stop the ball. A drive right down the middle of the court and instead of helping to stop the ball, Robinson just slaps at the ball and fouls the dribble drive.

Crews still can’t play defense
Said all last year, put the guy in when you're down late in the game and need threes, other than that he should ride the pine.
We have several guys with lackluster effort tonight cutting off penetration. Crews simply is terrible athletically with horizontal movement. Complete liability defensively if he’s not on a heater from 3, sit him down.
Terrible defensive effort by Crews. Guarding his man at the FT line. A simple jab step and he turns his back on the shooter and goes to the rim leaving his man alone at the FT line. WTF!!
One thing seems clear. The SEC doesn't have to worry about Mizzou this year. Even though they may come back and win this game, that first half was beyond poor. That preseason 7th place prediction is way too generous. On top of their obvious defensive ineptitude, they look poised to be the worst free throw shooting team in the conference. It's amazing just how poor they are at the stripe.

I don’t know what the fascination is with the guy. The rare occasions when he gets hot are far outnumbered by the times he gets embarrassed on defense.
