The comp that comes to mind for me with Mailloux is Ian Cole. Both were late 1st round picks. Cole would drive people (including me) nuts when he first arrived in the NHL with his inconsistent play. Hitchcock didn't want to play him. They eventually traded him for a career 6th/7th defenseman. Cole has since won two cups and is still in the league at age 36.

Vancouver had how many injuries going into the game (and even had a major one during) and still found a way to won....JSbgwinn01 wrote: ↑31 Oct 2025 12:35 pmThis.11WSChamps wrote: ↑31 Oct 2025 09:47 am Well I don't know how many teams that can lose two of their top 6 and #1 center and have the quality depth to cover that.
As far as Walker and Torp they were two thirds of the WTF line last season which arguably spearheaded the drive to make the playoff and were a driving force in the series against the Jets. Now all of a sudden not so good as 4th line players?
I won't argue about top level talent and dead weight..no disagreement there.
The team not playing as a five man unit and the top money players not being able to finish are the main problems as I see it.

And he burned us the other night when we played the Mammoth to boot.Frank Barone wrote: ↑31 Oct 2025 12:43 pm The comp that comes to mind for me with Mailloux is Ian Cole. This is what has bothered me for sure. I could get on board with all these folks preaching patience if he was showing flashes of NHL skill in other (any) areas - such as skating/offense, which he supposedly is a specialist at. But really haven't seen anything to talk about in those areas either.seattleblue wrote: ↑31 Oct 2025 11:30 am I have not seen a single flash of upside with him at the NHL, and numerous cataclysms.

I'd have taken my chances Bolduc becomes a consistent 25-35 goal scorer than acquire another Ian Cole.Frank Barone wrote: ↑31 Oct 2025 12:43 pm The comp that comes to mind for me with Mailloux is Ian Cole. Maybe he becomes a top 4 D, maybe he completely washes out or maybe something in between, a 3rd pair guy.MiamiLaw wrote: ↑31 Oct 2025 12:54 pmThis is what has bothered me for sure. Do we have to talk about it every game? I don’t know if that’s the same thing as preaching patience, but the old saying “a watched pot never boils”

I've honestly tried to tone it down. I feel like I said my piece and am moving on. But that line from seattle is still something that is bothering me about him.netboy65 wrote: ↑31 Oct 2025 14:00 pmMaybe he becomes a top 4 D, maybe he completely washes out or maybe something in between, a 3rd pair guy.MiamiLaw wrote: ↑31 Oct 2025 12:54 pmThis is what has bothered me for sure. But yea I'm with you that at this point, we know what he is right now and it is going to take a decent amount of time for us to know where he'll land on the spectrum.
Re: Observations from tonight’s game
I just want him to fight for ice. Impact the game in other ways if you’re struggling. Develop some chirp…push through the vets telling him he’s horrible and will be riding a bus soon.MiamiLaw wrote: ↑31 Oct 2025 14:27 pmI've honestly tried to tone it down. Snuggerud and Broberg need to develop the same. That’s how culture and teams are built

I don't remember any growing pains with Parayko. He was +28 his first season. LOLdtkblueshockey wrote: ↑31 Oct 2025 00:14 am Mailloux is still making mistakes but I see why the Blues had their eye on him. He has talent but he’s definitely going to need to keep playing to get used to this league. There’s going to be growing pain with him like there was with Parayko.
