What did Joe do?
He assisted Girsch in his responsibilities.

Pretty simple. Chaim told him he had no future with the Cardinals. He handed him a severance and pointed the direction to the door.

The most recent (former) GM should expect similar treatment.

Do you think McEwing was a bigger problem than Marmol?
If Marmol was a big problem, he’d be gone by now.
Ordinarily wins and losses determine how good a manager is. Was the roster that bad two of the last three seasons?
Pythagorean….

2023:
Cards record: 71-91
Pyth: 71-91
2024
CR: 83-79
P: 76-86
2025:
CR: 78-84
P: 74-88

The last two seasons, the cards have overachieved.

You really think the the 2025 team was good. They weren’t great in 2024, lost two pitchers, gained only Maton
The 2025 team was 6 games under .500 and 19 games out of first place. The question regarding Marmol is what role he played in the failure. Given that Matheny was fired after never having a losing season tells me ownership has lowered standards.
Well, let’s look at this:

2023
2024
2025

Has Matheny been offered a managerial role in that time?

Joe McEwing is out.
The first move of the Bloom era was keeping Marmol. That much should be clear, right?
I suppose you could see it that way but I'm not sure maintaining the status quo qualifies as a "move". It's a decision not to make a move.

Matheny spent 20 days in an intensive care unit, where he was diagnosed with a subarachnoid hemorrhage, a serious and potentially life-threatening condition that involves bleeding in the brain

So does that make him ineligible for any mlb role?

I would think so and I don't know why he would want to risk his health to do it.
