It makes me giggle. The NBA - like the other pro sports leagues - was willing to make a farce of itself in the name of the almighty dollar and now their credibility (#brand) is mockworthy. Great job all around!Ronnie Dobbs wrote: ↑23 Oct 2025 11:01 am Who would have thought that totally intertwining sports and gambling and sports networks would result in something like this?

That's true but the technology exists to get 100% accurate strike zone and MLB refuses to implement it at the same time owners are pushing for gambling.ramfandan wrote: ↑23 Oct 2025 11:37 amOther pro sports pretty easy too if they wish to be crooked . The excuse I saw was they didn't want to completely remove the "human element" from the game.
In basketball the difference between a blocking call and charging foul is pretty subjective too.

Re: NBA stars/ coach arrested with Mafia gambling scheme
While the system can be accurate, a call can only be reversed thru challenge. A batter can’t get assistance from a manager whether to challrnge or not so he must use his own judgment and if he requests challenge and is wrong, oh boy! If your team is wrong twice you are out of challenges. Then you risk being screwed with bad call latr in game that cannot be challenged.ScotchMIrish wrote: ↑23 Oct 2025 13:59 pmThat's true but the technology exists to get 100% accurate strike zone and MLB refuses to implement it at the same time owners are pushing for gambling.ramfandan wrote: ↑23 Oct 2025 11:37 amOther pro sports pretty easy too if they wish to be crooked . I agree and there is no excuse to implement it completely other than the umpires don't want it. Same umpires who stand to make money rigging games. I'm implement it and if the umps don't like it they can walk.ramfandan wrote: ↑23 Oct 2025 14:24 pmWhile the system can be accurate, a call can only be reversed thru challenge. An umpire risks a lot to rig a game and lose a lucrative job . Vet umpires can earn up to $450,000 per year.

Offer an ump enough money to fix games and greed takes over.

Re: NBA stars/ coach arrested with Mafia gambling scheme
While in theory thar is correct I would think this would be easy to "cheat" on. Someone could yell out a code word from the bench to tell the batter or pitcher to challenge quite easily it would seem. Are you going to enforce the bench not to say a word when a bad call is made?ramfandan wrote: ↑23 Oct 2025 14:24 pmWhile the system can be accurate, a call can only be reversed thru challenge. Giamatti and Stern never would have let it get to this point, even when it meant banning Pete Rose and suspending Michael Jordan.

Re: OT: NBA stars/ coach arrested with Mafia gambling scheme
I suspect this stuff is already going on in baseball. Or it will be soon. Or you could get into a situation where organized crime would pressure a player to make some sort of deal or else....your mother might have an accident. So we have gone from banning players in the Black Sox scandal, to Pete Rose being banned, and now we get Bet MGM ads on MLBTV. Seriously? Of course this stuff is going on and will be more prevalent. There is a TON of money at stake.... What on earth did MLB think was going to happen when they opened the flood gates to organized gambling? We have had threads about this before. It was only a matter of time. I am shocked, shocked I tell ya... duh...
