The league needs a serious salary cap even if it means a year of no baseball. Small and mid market teams need to band together and hold the line.

I do give the Dodgers credit for managing their money better than the other mega market teams.

I agree, Scotch. The state of the sport calls for drastic measures.

Often some will cite that baseball needs a hard cap like NLF football but they forget one major thing .. the TV monies

In the NFL, unlike MLB, the league does the major TV deals and ALL teams split the revenue evenly . Games are televised weekly .

In baseball, each team has individual TV righs deals to do their 162 games. TV advertising revenue for Yankees with a local population of 10 Million plus population is a far different than Milwaukee's TV market .. Not only less population but much less geographic area too .

So it's an apples /oranges thing .

That, and the MLBPA is the toughest nut to crack in pro sports. The NFL players union is a joke.

The minimum salary in MLB is $760,000, and the average person should be able to get by on that for years. I think the MLBPA would hold together a lot longer than owners. I guess we'll see.

Every other professional sport has done it. MLB has "fixed" the pitch clock, mound visits, designated hitter, the draft and international signings but they haven't improved attendance. Salary cap would be more likely to generate interest across MLB.

Dodger pitching was impacted by injuries during the season. Now they’ve returned, starting in September. That makes the Dodgers the favorites to go all the way

Yamomoto a 3-hit complete Game 2.

It's hard to compete against that when your lineup has names like Ortiz, Frelick, Durbin, Vaughn, Turang, Bauers.

Looks like Dodgers-Mariners in WS.
West Coast WS. Is everyone still gonna stay up late and watch it?
Huh? The games will start at 7:08 CDT.
so day games local time? Weird.
I wouldn’t call a West Coast game starting at 5 pm a ‘day ‘game..
Twilight may be better term . ‘Early evening ?
Its still daylight savings until Nov, so LA gametimes could be pretty hot in that SoCal sun.

NFL players union was strong back when Gene Upshaw was President . He and Pete Rozelle worked together

So what will the owners offer the players as inducement to agree to some partial salary cap. I never hear any ideas on what the owners would offer the players to get a cap

what haver you heard or read ? OR what would you propose ?

Player's union will oppose it.

Other salary caps in other sports require owners to open their books and split revenue with players by percentage. Some people (buzz) about players' refusal to agree to a salary cap -- but have no problem with owners' refusal to open their books.

They offer them a chance to earn money playing baseball and of course current contracts would be grandfathered in. Partial salary cap is what they have now with the luxury tax. It needs to be firm. Go over and you lose all your draft picks and international signing money.

Salary cap is about leveling the playing field so small and medium market teams can compete and perhaps fans can afford a ticket to a baseball game. Nothing to do with owners opening their books.

Totally agree. Best thing that could have happened is the early injuries. Snell had 11 starts to get prepped for the playoffs. Dumb luck or masterful design?

Wouldn't they still oppose it after no baseball? Wouldn't the owners lose money faster than the players with no baseball?
