If anyone at this point think they are increasing the payroll they need to share what they are smoking.
They know they are cutting but waiting on season ticket sales numbers and tv money estimates to know how much. I would be surprised if payroll over $100 million next year. Wouldn’t be shocked if below $90 million.

Tells me they aren't planning to spend. Big shock there.

They could easily say they've discussed the plan but aren't ready to share the plan.

To say they haven't even talked about it just makes them look dumb.

Anybody with a brain knows the payroll is tied to if Arenado, Gray and Contreas are traded (that is roughly $80 million)

Gotta wait and see

Idk about all that, but I do know if you post anything political on a particular side, you will be banned. The other side, you will not. Just pointing that out.

Now, back to baseball!

I think they want it to be under $90 million.

If they havent talked about payroll, then they literally do not have a plan for next month. they have to have forecasts, short term and long term etc, And they have to know how much they would spend if the right player was available now. this is blatant lie, wordsmithing to mislead etc. So start off the new regime with an F for PR. Gotta provide a better no answer, answer than that. Funny part is, this make certain people look stupid, and they dont realize that?

If they traded all of those players and only had to eat a small portion of their salaries, do you really think they’d spend a bunch in free agency?

I just don’t see a scenario where they spend any more than the bare minimum in 2026, knowing the CBA is coming and not having any idea of how the new CBA will impact them going forward.

Basically, I don’t think those trades would change much as far a payroll and roster construction approach is concerned.

Obviously a lot will depend on who gets traded and the cost for making those trades. No expensive free agents will be brought in, but I do think that, “ IF “ the right young player is available, that fits their plans and timetable, they might be willing to spend what it would take to get that player. Now we still aren’t talking Mega Millions!

I heard the comment, turned to my son and told him they are full of it. They know they are reducing payroll and don’t want to admit it.

They are probably looking at a difference in payroll being dictated by trades. If Gray, Arenado, or Contreras are traded, the payroll decreases.

I know some hope DeWitt reinvests that money in the roster. But he unfortunately will invest it in his wallet.
