If they'd engaged in a true rebuild, which would have started in 2023, then the turn-around would take place sooner.

However, since they've pursued a more slo-mo rebuild, it will take relatively longer - I'd agree with the 2029 estimate.

5 years...what do you think?
In 30 days or less, I could make the Cardinals a 50/50 contender to win the division in 2026 - and 75/25 to gain a WC spot.
As could any competent leader.
Only 4 decisions need to be made and executed - each of which is rather easily accomplished.
So, with creating those 50/50 odds, STL could quite realistically win the division next year or the year following.
Not difficult at all.
Now, how long will it take Bloom to do so?
Too soon to say - but I should have a perfect analysis of him by the end of January.
Can't you do it sooner? I won't be able to sleep.

I doubt I will be around to see it happen. I can only hope.

Without necessarily spending hundreds of millions of dollars on FA's.

Pretty close to my thinking. My biggest concern is putting together a pitching staff to do it. The front office will never spend the kind of money it will take to put it together. And developing those type pitchers isn't easy and once they get their chance it takes a few years of pitching in the majors before they put it all together.

Why do you assume this org can return to an elite contending status? The utter collapse and demise from top to bottom has Been so extreme theres no guarantee it will return to previous glory. The owner is obviously awol. The new leadership has not REAL tract record of complete successful overhaul. The field manager and staff have no pedigree. EVERY correction from mediocrity in Cards history had a historical force of baseball saving it. That is not present here.
