Re: If Wetherholt is healthy
I mean if there was ever a time when Paul DeJong "wouldn't hurt," that would be right now. Not that I'm in favor of it necessarily.imetsatchelpaige wrote: ↑13 Sep 2025 14:01 pmYou were dead wrong.imadangman wrote: ↑13 Sep 2025 12:48 pmI actually thought it was an alright idea, given the rest of this season really doesn't matter.

I get the 40 man/Rule 5 factor. But there is no doubt the practical MLB experience, for even a few weeks, would be invaluable for Wetherholt. He could file a lot of things away regarding the overall MLB experience in even a short period of time to get the jump on next season. If anybody doesn't understand that. So be it.

Re: If Wetherholt is healthy
My guess is that it’s more like they want to leave room on the 40 man roster to add players from other systems. Bloom knows Boston system well. They also have insights into Seattle system. Both of these teams are loaded with prospects that all can’t be protected. My guess that is the reason for not cluttering the 40 man roster up unless needed more so than protecting what they have.

No, he is clueless and just posts stuff to get attention. Really sad and pathetic.HorseTrader wrote: ↑13 Sep 2025 12:38 pmThat's been explained a couple hundred times lately. Maybe after 3 or 4 thousands times Shady will understand.bretto12 wrote: ↑13 Sep 2025 12:29 pm The move make NO SENSE on any level. There are only a couple weeks left in the season and to play him, YOU HAVE TO PUT HIM ON THE 40 MAN ROSTER. This has been beat to death on both this site and the talks with Cards Reporter Gould. There are players in the minors that they do not want to expose to the rule 5 draft. JJ is not eligible for that draft and does not need to be protected. If you put him on the 40 man, someone has to come off the 40 man and is then able to be taken away.

There's only 15 games left. See what Saggesse can do there I suppose.imadangman wrote: ↑13 Sep 2025 12:48 pmI actually thought it was an alright idea, given the rest of this season really doesn't matter.
Re: If Wetherholt is healthy
In addition to Saggese at SS, Wetherholt at 2B every game, Gorman/Arenado platoon at 3B, Donovan/Nootbaar LF, Burleson/Walker platoon in RF and Herrera at DH.2ninr wrote: ↑13 Sep 2025 17:27 pmThere's only 15 games left. Yes, yes, Saggese. He should play. He will be a good bench piece next year.2ninr wrote: ↑13 Sep 2025 17:27 pmThere's only 15 games left. This is a legit topic with pluses and minuses both ways.Shady wrote: ↑13 Sep 2025 15:19 pm I get the 40 man/Rule 5 factor. So.....you have set yourself up as the SUPREME opinion on this topic and insult those who disagree?????
Re: If Wetherholt is healthy
I agree that it is really good to get Saggese continued playing time. It will pay dividends. Possibly, as you indicated, for being a productive utility player for '26. Actually, it wouldn't surprise me if Saggese comes on like Burleson has as a very productive, versatile player. That would be very nice.imadangman wrote: ↑13 Sep 2025 17:40 pmYes, yes, Saggese.
