They should fully be ready to contend in 2027. What are y’all talking about!?!?!

Pass on Sandy A

I'd rather sign Z. Gallen (just turned 30 yrs old last month) as a FA, use the trade assets to add another SP

Gallen from 2019 - 2024:

143 GS
3.29 ERA
1.13 WHiP
9.8 SO9

Having a rough 2025 may have brought his asking price down to Dewitt level?

Since 8/1/25':

7 GS
2.20 ERA
1.05 WHiP

Take that Mikolas/Fedde money off the books and use it on Gallen! :D

I never want to sign a free agent that will lose us a draft pick and definitely not during our ‘rebuild’.

It appears he has ironed out his troubles from earlier in the season and the Marlins know they can't re-sign him. The problem at this stage is we don't know whether the Cardinals can re-sign him either.

30 years old on 9-7.
Undre control for 2 seasons at 38M.
Very, very affordable.
No more expensive than Mikolas, for all practical purposes.
Herrera, Mootbaar, Scott, Donovan, Burleson would all be of interest to the Marlins.
Both teams could easily put together a package that would hold appeal.

He isn't a free agent. It would involve a trade the perhaps re-signing after his contract ends after the 2027 season.

The team can easily contend for the division title next year.
I could fix everything in less than 30 days.
Any competent leader could.
The required corrections are extremely obvious and easily accomplished.
All that is required is the skill and the will to do so.
Super Slo Mo lacks both.
We shall soon see if Bloom possesses those 2 elements.

I think it all comes down to the asking price. Sandy had a hot stretch in June (IIRC) and is in another one now but he still has a 5.66 ERA on the season. His 4.22 FIP is better, but he's still only been worth 1.5 fWAR (which ranks 42nd among qualified SPs). Gallen is 49th among qualified SP, and is a fine bounce back candidate as well.

If the uncertainty around Sandy and his contract for the next two years keeps the acquisition cost around where it should be, then I'm mildly interested. (This is all under the huge assumption that ownership will spend money to help fill out the rest of the roster, otherwise all of these discussions are moot, and we will have very little to discuss this winter other than which redundant players to trade away for prospects.)

Have you listened to the cardinals say they are focusing on development the next 2 seasons.

Whether we agree with or not, i just dont get why one would start a thread wondering if we could.

We wont. Managemebt has said as much. Either protest and dont buy cardinals gear or accept it. But for the life of me i dont get why you would still tell yozrself this is a possibility. It isnt. Cardinals arent targetting any top dollar free agents thia offseason whether we like it or not.

Ive kindanlost interest and stopped following as closely this year as i used to and probably will drift away more next year.
Why not? A man can dream.

What management has spoken? Mo? He doesn't live here any more. Chaim owns this coming winter and he hasn't made any pronouncement yet.
Not spending was dewitts decision not mo. Bloom still has to follow dewitts orders. Its not blooms or mos money.

And this is probably an exercise by both of us in futility rbi's since (IMO) by all counts here in St. Louis BDWJr is going to go even lower w/the 2026 payroll.

But we can still have some fun this offseason like we always have discussing potential moves!

The Cards have enough to deal to get him.
Question of course is should they??
Does he have health concerns? After performance I always question health when signing a pitcher to significant long term $$.
That being said...$38M for the next two years is NOT that bad.
As opposed to coughing up $30M+ for 5 or more seasons.
So....it comes down to WHAT you have to relinquish to get him.
Which of course is an obvious no-brainer in any trade analysis.

I don't speak to or for DeWitt; that probably goes for you too...

He will work with his POBO to decide how he wishes to proceed. I don't think a trade for Sandy is outside of the realm of the possible; not predicting it, mind you, just not certain it couldn't happen.

The team should focus on improving their talent evaluation staff so they'll know in the future not to trade away good pitching for average offensive production.

Doesn't matter right now, his earliest free agency is 2027. He's signed for next year with a team option for the year after.

Was referring to the post above mine regarding Gallen, sorry.

Well the other posters were talking about 2028-2029 like watt and attila. That seems ridiculous to me.

No problem but regarding Gallen I'd say it depends on how much and for how long? He has been vintage Gallen since the first of August. I would not hesitate give a second round pick for the right price and length but if he finishes strong I suspect we would be bidding against the likes of Mets, Yankees, Dodgers etc.
