They’ll be competitive next year.
So, this implies that you’re calling B S on the reporting that they intend to take a step backwards in 2026?
They have no pitching. Unless they go sign Dylan Cease, I don’t know what path to being competitive exists, and they’ve (reporters) said payroll is headed south.

Not without at least 4 decent starting pitchers. We shall see. There are possibilities, but no guarantees, and it is doubtful ownership ponies up for a high level starter who is MLB ready. So LIbby has to step up, Gray has to stop imploding, McG has to hold his own as a back end of rotation piece, and some kids from the minors need to produce. A lot of ifs.....

They will be active in trades and FA.
I still think they will be shrewd in spending, but I seriously doubt they’re going to go with Pallante as 4th starter and the 5th starter just bullpen games…

If Bloom is as good as his rep this team should be competitive by 2027. There's a lot of work to be done but this team has many fungible pieces that he can mix and match with acquisitions however works best.
his rep is ... awful, OK, good, great - just depends who you talk to
High Em is just another Moe

They gave him a 5 year deal to allow for a longer runway to win.

They’ll be active partially because they have no other choice. They don’t have 5/6 viable starters for 2026.
But “competitive”? They would need some dynamic moves, starting with a guy like Cease.

They won’t sign Cease. It would be wise to trade off some some of their major leaguers for starters a year or two away. Something similar to the Priester trade would be even better, but trades like that are not common.

I don't think it's Cease or bust, LOL.
This is a team 3 games under .500 with horrible starting pitching. Just replacing Miko and Pallante will make a huge difference.
