I don't see any reason not to pick him up, get a look and see how he fares. Just ask that we get first rights to make him an offer in the offseason if we deem him worth it

The Cardinals need starting pitching (especially for '26) and Buehler has exciting potential. He's not old. The price should be right. 2 + 2 should equal 4 for Mo.

We are still in awe of how Fedde pitched for the Brewers his first time out until ran out of gas. Sort of suggests our pitching coach needs to be gone. Today should be Buehler's Day Off.

If he's willing, claim him and sign him for next season (as a prove it year). If he sucks, no big deal, he can eat innings in a re-build. If he's good, deadline bait.

A very good suggestion. He shouldn't be overly expensive for '26 in that scenario.

I remember Joel saying we should sell the farm to get him. Good times.

Seems like the kind of low risk/high reward moves we should be looking at. If he pitches well for the month, great, now we've got first position to lock him in for next year. If he sucks...guess what! We do too! Have fun in free agency!

Little to no downside to this. Get him a fully healthy offseason to get back on track and see what he can do.

If it works you have a legitimate TOTR

If it doesn’t it’s nothing we haven’t already seen in Mikolas so nbd

Other than he completely sucks?

There is no good reason to pick up Buehler.

And for those people saying “but this is his first season back from Tommy John”… stop it. The success rate of pitchers coming back from multiple TJ surgeries is abysmal. I gather most of you don’t realize that this was his second go around.

Yeah, 2 TJs is usually 1 too many. Pass.

Ohtahni has had 2 TJs. I would take a chance on him.

I think it would be okay to pick him up and give him a chance.

Exactly. This team has nothing that lose. They also have gaping holes in their rotation (and bullpen .... and offense...).

No reason not to take a chance. Who the heck knows what will happen? On a ship to nowhere why not turn the wheel?

He hasnt been great since 2021 or even decent since 2022 and is toast.

Buehler midway through 2022 had surgery to remove bone spurs in hos elbow followed by tommy john surgery and missing all of 2023.

Since he came back those surgeries hes just not the same pitcher these last 2 years.
