Burly is a bat, and that's about it. He's not an elite bat, not an all star. Maybe a 2 WAR player. Maybe hits 20 HRs 70 RBIs. That's nothing special.

Problem is a good team like we had in the Pujols years had 6-7 bats on that level or higher. Now we have 2-3.
Now, please compare Burleson to Gorman and Walker. If Burleson's "nothing special", what are they?

I actually see very little criticism. I do see many post indicating he is not going to be superstar status but a good solid player. Not sure where you see so much criticism.

The "Burleson is a star" thread has quite a bit of negativity.

How about BA, RBIs and K rate?
Batting average: OPS and OBP are more important. Gorman has a good chance of surpassing AB in both.
RBIs: In RBI per PA, Gorman is already better.
K-Rate: Doesn't matter. OPS and OBP matter.
Are you endorsing Gorman to take Burleson's place as the regular #3 hitter in the lineup?
LOL, no. I'm not making lineup endorsements.

I'm just saying NG has a good chance of surpassing AB this year in some essential offensive categories.
Gorman's K rate is still a huge problem for him. IMO
What's the problem? His SLUG is up. Walk rate is really nice. He's one big week away from overtaking AB in some big offensive categories.

I see more constructive criticism. There’s a difference.

Comparing him to busts doesn’t elevate his status. He’s still a decent 1-2 tool complimentary piece, regardless of Walker, Gorman, or whoever else sucking. When compared to other team’s star players…he falls woefully short. Why are you so desperate to convince otherwise? It’s like it’s your life goal. F’ing weirdo.

It seems you would prefer Gorman to Burleson in high leverage situations at the plate. Is that correct? I doubt if many here would agree.

Who tf said they were special? All of them are looking pretty mediocre by nearly all accounts of every poster here. If anything, Burleson gets more love than the other two combined. Most just don’t worship him like you. Those 3 were supposed to our new heart of the order and their failures are why this team couldn’t take the next step away from mediocrity.

I compare Burly to a RH 3B named Mike Schmidt except he’s not near as good of a hitter as Mike.

No, I just said Gorman has a chance to have better numbers than AB by season's end.

Does that, at times, make fans favor the person w better stats? Sure...

They are the problem I mentioned. Also the fact we have no elite bats.

30+ players in MLB on pace to hit 30+ HRs this year. most of those will hit 35 and several will hit 50. Don't say they are rare. But we have no one close to 30/100.

There was a post comparing Gorman and Burleson's career stats earlier in this thread. You ignored it because it didn't fit your narrative. You adore Burleson, neato. Why do you take it so personally that others don't have the inflated opinion of him you do? How does that negatively affect your life? Lighten up and give the board a break.

Since June 1st:

Gorman
201 PA's
12 HR
33 RBI
.249 .353 .491 .845

Burly
303 PA
12 HR
44 RBI
.298 .350 .489 .839

Other than BA Gorman has been the slightly more productive hitter since June 1st so I'd drop him as your comp and just stick to Walker.

I'm taking Burly over any Cardinals hitter other than, maybe Donovan, in a high leverage, game on the line, situation. Whom would you take on the Cardinals? By the way, I don't want strike out prone hitters in high leverage situations. Ex. Runner on third, less than 2 outs, needing a run to tie in the ninth or extra innings. What say you?

You might want to take:

.313 .352 .513 .865

over

Burly High Leverage
.288 .352 .363 .714

I'm taking Burleson over Contreras or Herrera against a RHP with a good breaking ball and good change up. Contreras and Herrera are much more vulnerable to the K in that situation.
