Keep playing him. He costs nothing, for now but is arb eligible and turns 26. He's oft injured too

But he's not even a 1 WAR player. Not sure he has a position on this team if they keep Hurdy Gurdy...which I wouldn't.

Did not see the play but there is absolutely zero excuse for a guy struggling to find a spot in the lineup and field to not hustle.

Nobody ever embarrasses themselves by hustling.

As you stated, you did not see the play.

I did. It was a lack of judgment if anything. No promises that he wasn't gunned at 2B anyway. It was a rocket line drive off the top of the wall that was fielded cleanly by the right fielder and thrown into 2B on a dot.

Basil Shabazz wrote: 22 Aug 2025 08:44 am Also, it wasn't a lack of hustle. It was poor judgment if anything. He hit a (bleep) missel that he thought was gone, so he didn't bust it out of the box immediately.

Even if he had busted it out of the box, he isn't the fastest runner around, and that rocket off the wall in that bandbox, there are no promises that he isn't gunned down at 2B anyway.
Of course it was a lack of hustle.

Gorman believing it was gone doesn’t negate that fact.

I saw it You can call it lack of hustle or him being dumb and jogging slowly out of the box admiring a ball that even if it was a home run would have barely got over the wall either way it was dumb and pitiful gormans the only guy on here people tried to give a free pass to for that terrible of base running

peterman'srealitytour wrote: 22 Aug 2025 08:36 am He is better of late. Really seems to be better about laying off the high fastball that he chased all of last year. That said, he really needs to hit that pitch out over the plate to LF. Still rolls over with weak ground balls trying to pull it.

Not sure where you put him long term. Too many throwing errors from 3B. They seem to be grooming Wetherholt for 3B and that would put Donny at 2B.
He’s a DH.
Yeah, that offensive output doesn’t play up so much at DH. Even if he was just average defensively at 2B, the bat could justify parking him there.

Nothing to lose by playing every day rest of the season. Maybe the bat keeps improving and he levels out above where he is now. If not, I don’t think he makes sense long term at DH. Given our overall lack of power, our DH spot should go to someone well over .800 OPS.

+1 Basil

Gorman last 80 PA's:
5 HR
13 RBI
12 BB's
.232 .346 .464 .809
Goes back even a bit further than that. Since June 1 (180 PA):
11 HR
29 RBI
24 BB
.236 .337 .471 .808

Walk rate is fantastic. Hopefully he'll keep improving. OBP last year was .271

Gorman is an ideal LHH designated hitter going forward. Not that it was a poor approach to see if he could fit somewhere defensively. I get people are fatigued cause they've heard about him for so long, but it's still a profile to be bullish on...

He has a career best chase rate, zone contact rate, swinging strike rate, walk rate, and strikeout rate
5 HR in 70 PA against LHP with 10 walks
2nd half walk rate of 15%, .354 OBP, .790 OPS, 122 wRC+ (since he returned from IL)

Their roster is obviously a bit of a mess. He would be best served as a 1B/DH partner but Contreras (and Herrera) are in the way. He shouldn't play 3B and 2B was always putting a square peg in a round hole.

I will be very interested to see how Bloom reshapes the roster. I hope Gorman is part of the team moving forward.

A player should run everything out and assume nothing. I hope Gorman learned by his mistake.

lol - you already admitted he had “poor judgment”.

I agree - the poor judgment was not hustling, according to many others who did see the play.

The sanctimony of some on here is humorous.

If you don't like Gorman, that is fine. But judge him just like you would judge any other player.

WTF are you talking about “sanctimony”?

He didn’t hustle. I don’t GAS whether it’s Gorman or Winn or any other Cardinal.

Why are you making excuses for failure to hustle?

As mentioned, you didn't see the play.

He smokes a line drive off the top of the wall. Yes, he thought it was gone, so he didn't bust it out of the box. He busted butt maybe 15-20 feet down the line. The ball had already been retrieved by the right fielder and rifled into 2B. Even if he had busted it out of the gate, it would have been a bad idea to try for 2B, as it would have been bang bang.

Do you watch many games? If so, would you say there is a history of Gorman not hustling? I watch most games and don't recall ever having an issue with Gorman's "hustle" or work ethic.

Oh please…

Molina would barely waddle half way to first base and turn to the dugout on a ground ball…

I don’t remember anyone ripping him…

For the record…Everyone should hustle…. even the fat, washed up ones…
