Edson wrote: 20 Aug 2025 09:56 am This team isn't going anywhere this year, why start his FA clock when in a week and half you won't have too?
This clock thing isn't a reason for concern anymore Edson.

If a young player shows he's going to be special, then teams all over MLB lock them down w/contracts that buyout their ARB + some free agent years.

M. Winn, brought up around this time, is an example.

If they wish to keep him around past his free agent walk season, then they'll lock him down way before he's in his walk year.

FA clock is not an issue.

Only an idiot like Mo would keep this kid on the farm.

I could care less if Sagesse doesn't get playing time, he's JAG.
Wasn't Church tearing up AAA ball? Some people here were thinking this guy would come up and continue to hit, but it hasn't happened. It would be nice to see what he can do, but it's not going to make a difference if he comes up now or latter.
Ha!

In no way, shape or form does the 25 year old, 11th round selection Church equate to JJW, the #1 prospect in the system!

For the record I'm not a Church "guy", to me he's JAG only here due to VSII's injury.

The point in bringing JJW up now, like they did Winn, is to let him get a taste of MLB and prep him for 2026 by giving him a head start.
They waited on bringing up Winn and when they finally did, they controlled it so he didn’t lose his rookie status the next season. There is zero reason to call up JJ today and burn his rookie status. Just wait a few days.

There is also the 130 at bats thing. If you call him up 8/15 you are going to struggle to keep him under 130 at bats and have him play everyday. My comment was about both pieces.

So he gets 129 AB's (35 games remaining, he could easily play in 30 games).

Winn got 122 AB's during his call up.

I am sure he just got the night off. As for him being promoted. Moz has declared there is zero reason to add him this season and I agree on this one. Let him finish his AAA stint and hit the AFL or some time off ready to make the team out of ST. They are clearly stating they are riding out the guys that are up top already. I feel the only reason Church got a look see is because they wanted to know how he would adapt before decisions are made in the off season. He proves himself it means he can be looked at as a 2026 possibility and one less area to worry about with him and Scott or to maybe move on from Scott. Who really knows. Either way JJ is done deal in Stl next year and no need to expose him at this time.

Yea I've read Mo's lame excuses too.

Too bad if that happens, really stupid not to being him up.

Huge missed opportunity to give JJW, like they gave Winn, a huge jump start to his 2026 season.

As for Church, he's not going to be a starter in 2026 and have doubts he even makes the team.

Please stop with the service time misinformation.
Here's an article explaining the rules.
The call-up target date in 2023 was Aug. 18. On that day, the Cardinals called up Masyn Winn. (Note: in 2022, Corbin Carroll and Gunner Henderson were called up after the August deadline.).
The call-up date this year has already passed. As long as JJW doesn't get more than 130 ABs, it does not affect his service time.

How is he going to work on things in AAA when he's already tearing it up there? Seems more like whatever is getting him out in MLB doesn't exist in AAA.

Wetherholt made his 4th error in his 27th AAA game while going 0-4.

That coulda' been done in MIami for the big club!
