Never met them....lived in California in the 60s and saw a great Gibson/Marichal duel...was at the infamous Mad Hungarian/ Bill Madlock game where there were 3 people in the batters box and Al buzzed them...saw Musial in his twilight...good memories but sad when we see where this team is today.
Thank you. It was why I posted. The great tradition seems to be gone.
The tradition remains IMO
When I was a little kid , I had heard about the Gashouse Gsng from my grandpa and father and early 40’s championships.
Wasn’t til I was 16 in 1964 for my first WS… then after 67,I waited another 15 years til 1982 WS title.
So in my lifetime a 16 year gap, a 15 year gap, and now another 14 year gap. The tradition has always had large gaps at least in the past 70+ years.
I missed the 1946 title as was born two years later.
Saw all 3 several times. Saw Gibson/Koufax on a Sunday afternoon..Took longer to drive to the ballpark than the game lasted. If I remember correctly only lasted about an hour and a half.
Saw Gibson's 17 strikeout WS game as well as his 3000th K.
Saw Brock's 3000th hit, and his 105th steal.
Stan Musial held the door for me as we entered the old Arena for a Steamer's playoff game in the 70's. I believe he was a minority owner of the team. I remember he said "We gotta win this one tonight". And we did.
My dad would take me from central Illinois to either St Louis or Chicago to see Cards v Cubs. Saw Gibson v Jenkins probably 5 or 6 times. Never failed to be a pitchers duel and Brock almost always had a key role in the game. Brock was my favorite player and actually got Gibson's autograph.
Never saw Musial. Saw Brock plenty of times. Prettiest play in baseball might have been Brock hitting one in the gap and running out a triple with the crowd getting louder till he slid in. Saw Gibson once, 73 or 74. He pitched a complete game 10 hitter, struck out ten, hit a three run homer and win the game 9 to 4. He also went between the mound and second and made a blind backhand throw to nip a fast Padres runner by a half step. Best play I have seen by a pitcher.
I saw Musial hit a double off the right field fence at Sportsman Park/Busch 1. My neighbor was a AAA outfielder for the Cards and I met Joe Cunningham, Lindy McDaniel and Boyer all next door. His kids and I played ALOT of sandlot and little league. Nice memories! I was born in 50.

To your point, the tradition remains because each generation gets their championships. I worry that this one won’t.

We are same age Dan, not many of us old codgers left to remember the good days. There were plenty of tough ones, but those fade in my memory.
My Dad saw or listened to every WS the Cards were ever in. He passed away 4 or 5 years back at 102. Dad took me down to Sportsman's Park to see Stan in his final year. I would have been about 6 and barely remember it, but I do. I saw Brock and Gibby numerous times as I was 7 in 1964 and entering my prime years as a fan. I saw Gibby get number 3000 in person and was also there when Lou got numbers 104 and 105. I also was a huge fan of Ted Simmons when I was a kid. Pure hitter. We all got to see Albert turn in what was one of the top 2 or 3 first ten seasons by a player in baseball history. I would put Albert up there with anyone and I am 68 years old and love the past players, but Albert was special like Stan.
Also, the play Winn made today behind second was about as good as it gets for a SS. He does this sort of thing once a week. So, although the team has been run into the ground, we are still seeing one of the best defensive SS the team has ever had in my lifetime and I am 68. Ozzie was amazing and I watched his whole career with the Cards, but Winn is up there too defensively. So as bad as things are right now, there is still that bright spot for me. Watching that kid play D.....
Aug 14 1966 saw Cards / Mets dbl header. Game 1- Brock 1-4. Game 2 Brock 0-5, Gibson pinch ran. (True). Brock threw out Jim Hickman at the plate. Not sure which game. My first ML games. Age 10.
1st 2 games I saw, Gibby pitched against the Braves with Hank and against the Giants with Willie Mays and Willie McCovey. Both games were 2-1. Gibby lost 1st game because of throwing error by Shannon. Won the 2nd game in 13 innings, with Gibby going all the way. He also faced Gaylord Perry. 1967 and 1968 were my first 2 games

Exactly...most fans have special memories with their teams...and I hope future generations do as well...but Mo-ran's incompetence has set this team back for years...and he is supported by the ' I got mine crowd!'
