As soon we get past whenever that date is next week that's keep his 2026 rookie status, there's NO REASON whatsoever for the Cardinals not to bring up JJW!
News Flash BDWJr...........he will sell tickets to your empty stadium.
The Cubs plan to recall outfielder Owen Caissie from Triple-A Iowa, a source confirmed Wednesday night, adding their top prospect to the active 26-man roster in the wake of catcher Miguel Amaya’s ankle injury.
Caissie, a native of Burlington, Ontario, could make his major-league debut in his home country Thursday, as the Cubs face the Blue Jays in a rubber match. Amaya is headed to the injured list with a sprained left ankle, manager Craig Counsell said after the Cubs’ 4-1 win Wednesday.
Caissie, 23, has posted a .966 OPS in Triple-A this season. The 6-foot-3 left-handed hitter leads the I-Cubs with 22 home runs this season, and he represented the Cubs in the All-Star Futures Game last month

Let’s see:
Owen Cassie: 953 PA in AAA
JJ Wetherholt: 104 PAs in AAA
Cassie has literately been there for 2 years and had an .848 OPS last year, not exactly bad. If he was in the Cardinals system people would have been screaming for Mo to be fired for letting him waste away in AAA.
JJW: 678 PA in College - .370 .467 .625 1.092
Cassie: No college experience

Ok he comes up where is he going to play EVERYDAY????
I was wondering the same thing. They are set at LF, CF, RF, DH, 1B. I suppose he could fit into a 6-man rotation for 5 spots, and people will get adequate rest.
I’m not sure we are set at any position but it seems if they had 2025 plans to bring him up they would had made some moves at the trade deadline to clear a position. Surely that happens in off season with Gorman, Sagesse and Arenado being the likely ones to move out. And I hate to add to the list but maybe Donovan. However when JJ comes up he needs to play on a regular basis.
Apologies, I was discussing where Caissie was going to get his time with the Scrubbies.

There was no reason not to call up Caglianone - then they found out he wasn't ready. Let him play at AAA. Take a look in spring training.
What position does he play?

It's not the same rock. Caissie has to be put on the 40 man for rule 5 protection this year. JJ doesn't.

We have 8-10 guys on the 40 man who can be DFA'd today, that's not a reason for not bringing him up huge.

Also the Cubs are trying to win the division/playoffs. We are not.
