Might warrant a separate thread.

We need 45 wins this season for Army to finish with 900 career wins(absolutely doable IMO).
We'd need 59 wins for him to pass Jack Adams for 8th all-time(not completely impossible(Boston had 65 in '22-'23 and Florida had 58 in 21-22, so there is some precedent), but highly unlikely).

Given that Army is only turning 61 in September(Poille didn't retire until he was 72), he easily would have gotten to 1000 had he not decided to step down. Heck, he still might get there if he decides to give it another kick at the can at some point. He probably would have ended up pushing Harry Sinden for 4th All-Time in wins.

Army isn't perfect by any means; but he's easily going into the Hall when he officially hangs it up.
Better be careful with having multiple Army threads in a year. I posted 2 unrelated Army threads and the haters came out of the woodwork.

Interesting he had a 55% lifetime win percentage and a 61.4 points percentage as an owner not including the ties.

This is how ELITE Doug Armstrong is. I just did the calculations and lost track of who they go by but these are the win percentages of the GM's in front of DA on the top 10 list

50.6
49.8
48.8
52.3
55.5 --- I know this is Ken Hollands because it's the best one
46.3
47.1
45.7

So in terms of GMs - Is he the best to ever do it? Definitely in conversation for top 3-5. Truly lucky to have Army in STL for so long.

Great stuff! And what I highlighted in red is something I've pointed out many times in the past about Army. It also applies to every other GM in history, as well as every new GM that will come along. As with any human, mistakes can and will happen. But when you look at the body of work in total and see so many more "wins" than mistakes, Army goes down as one of the best GM's in the history of the NHL.
Just a reminder that Army is not leaving next year. He will be in the same job as President of Hockey Operations doing the same work for a while. The only difference is that Steen will have the GM title. The NHL record books for GM wins will show victories going under Steen's name, although certainly no significant move will occur without Army's involvement. Stillman has said that certain Hockey Ops functions like scouting and analytics will continue to report directly to Army next year after Steen becomes GM.

The Hockey Hall of Fame will not be confused when the time comes to add up Army's total wins. I think he'll be a shoo-in.

That's an excellent point to bring up, Frank. At his relatively young age, I can see Army continue in his President of Hockey Operations role for several more years before he retires. Which is great news for the Blues!
