That's because Oli is not an MLB caliber manager. Not even close.Goldfan wrote: ↑12 Aug 2025 11:30 amCan you think of a good reason to have no one up …..Miles pitching with a one run lead in 7th?Cranny wrote: ↑12 Aug 2025 10:27 amExciting win, though!Goldfan wrote: ↑12 Aug 2025 10:03 am Miles 7th inning……thin 1run lead…..Nobody up in pen…..waits until lead lost to remove Miles
Miles always has an expiration inning where he blows up quickly…..I don’t care if he’s throwing a no-hitter against Rocks…..7th inning you have to have someone warming up.
Oli is not smart and not a winning manager.
I don’t really post about single games…..its the mindset and strategy throughout the season that make or break a team.
Over and over he comes up short….sure Donny came up and pulled out the win late against a 30 win team…… not really the point though

Re: Forever handicapped by Oli
Oli has overachieved with bad teams a few times. He’s not an incredible in game manager, but overall he’s not the problem. He catches a lot of unnecessary flack.
Should he have had someone warming in the pen in the 7th and a quick hook for Mikolas? Maybe, maybe not. But do you realize what an incredible nitpick that is?

It’s gross negligence to NOT have somebody warming up in BP with Miles pitching after 4-5 innings ANY Game…..

Just ignore him putting Donny and Pozo in and actually winning the game with those moves and not losing the game. Blame KKKorn for his [shirt]ty 3b play.Goldfan wrote: ↑12 Aug 2025 12:48 pmThat was the game. They mentioned last night that Lizard Puke has had 2 runs or less support in 109 of his 190 games pitched.

Gross negligence? Calm down, Karen. It was a mistake in hindsight. Oli could have pulled Mikolas after the 6th and you’d complain about that too. You complain, it’s what you do.Goldfan wrote: ↑12 Aug 2025 12:48 pmThat was the game. Re: Forever handicapped by Oli
I have not been an Oli fan for several reasons but I have to give him credit. He does not have a great roster. Ownership and management signaled early on they don’t believe in the team. They were sellers at the deadline. The player development under him is weak. Yet they are winning and 3 games out of the wild card.
I still think he is inexperienced and I don’t like the way he has handled certain players in the past.
But folks it’s time to acknowledge he has not been that bad.

Re: Forever handicapped by Oli
This is ridiculous. Mikolas entered the 7th inning yesterday at about 60 pitches. Here is what happened in the 7th that is causing the couch managers to go nuts:
1. Bunt single and error by Gorman
2. Single
3. Ground Out
4. Ground Out
3. Single
Then Mikolas is replaced by Leahy. So you would have pulled Mikolas when he's in the 60's for pitch count and has only given up 3 hits the entire game? You'd 100% be a manager no pitcher would want to play for.
You guys would have pitchers getting hot in the bullpen every time a pitcher gave up a hit, just so they'd be ready and completely blow through every arm you had without even pitching them a month into the season. This place is nuts.

Re: Forever handicapped by Oli
That seems likely, yeah. If he didn’t bring him out for the 7th and the bullpen allowed runs to score it seems pretty likely you would have said you want Mikolas gone and he is awful but what kind of idiot pulls a pitcher after 6 when he’s cruising against a terrible Rockies team.Goldfan wrote: ↑12 Aug 2025 13:10 pmI’d complain about pulling a guy in the 6h who I said to Trade/DFA months ago???JohnnyMO wrote: ↑12 Aug 2025 13:00 pmGross negligence? Re: Forever handicapped by Oli
Cranny, didn’t your FO throw in the towel on the season?? They even gave up. If they were concerned about winning and getting back into WC contention would they have not brought in some much needed talent?? So I’m confused about what your motivation is?? Seeing the youngsters in a Cards uniform on the ole ball diamond?? You admit you don’t care about what the manager does. You don’t care about winning so much. You don’t care that Busch stadium has less fans in it than the 30 wins Rockies home stadium. So why do you watch this team??Cranny wrote: ↑12 Aug 2025 13:19 pmSay something positive, Goldfan.
