The new rules hold that you can only bring up 2 to have 28 total, but this isn't an ordinary year where they'd be take up vets' PT or where they are trying to get in the playoffs, so send a few down or DFA them, and give more than two players a chance (those who we think need to be here in 2026).
And let them play!

1. Wetherholt up - only roster add without another move
2. Crooks up / Pages down (or DFA): they need to quit pretending that Pedro is a major league baseball player, move on to the future, which will be some combination of Crooks and Bernal, barring a trade of one of them. Pedro needs to work on a lot of things (not being a statue behind the plate and hitting).
3. Church or Josh Baez up / DFA Hampson (.446 OPS - not a typo). They can't go on thinking Scott can hit. He's a 4/5th OF.
4. Mathews up / DFA Roddery Muñoz: Please end the Muñoz experiment. Mathews needs to see what MLB is about before Spring Training. Have him take some of Miko's starts, and yes, let Miko be the long reliever.
You can send other guys down but it wont cause there to be more than 9 players starting a game so either those guys wont really play or they will be benching players like donovan burleson winn which isnt happenning.

These isnt gonna magically be a ton of playing time for these guys.
Specifically
You don’t see them playing Wetherholt?

They wanted to give gorman runway this season. He likely still plays in september. If there is at bats available. Saggese still needs more evaluation rather than bringing another player into fray immediately. Or let herrera play.more outfield while dpnovan plays 2b/3b. Herrera could use the reps.

The one i agree with wholeheartedly is crooks because there is absolutely zero reason to give pages starts cuz we know he isnt a future starting catcher.

I dont k ow ifnthey do that with crooks but i know they wont be sending 2-3 or more players down just to add 4 guys to 40 man roster already. It just wont happen nor do i think it should.

No prospects are going to get the call up.

They are going to call up 1 reliever thats already on the 40 man: Alcala, Roycroft, or Veneziano OR activate King from the IL

And they are going to call up 1 hitter thats already on the 40 man: Fermin, Siani, or Koperniak OR activate Arenado from the IL

Wetherholt will be called up and he will play. That isn't even a question.

-Hampson
-SInai
-Roycroft
-King
-Munoz
-Robberse
-Pages (but won't happen until seasons end)
Pages won't happen. Pages and Pozo will be the catchers coming out of ST next year. Now once they are sure that one of the minor leagues is ready, they will change. Neither one is even arby eligible and I'd think they both have options left, so why cut one of them.

Wetherholt only needs to come up if he plays. Just keep his rookie status for next season

I don't think the Cardinals 40 man roster is full (37?). They do have to add Crooks and Church this winter. They could call up Mathews, Wetherholt, Church, and Crooks while DFA'ing Mikolas and Hampson. They aren't letting Pages go at this time. What would you think of all that?

Mikalos comes off after the season anyway
A decision has to made about Thompson

If Thompson is healthy enough to pitch, he needs to pitch. The Cardinals need a lefty right now and it would be easy to make a spot for him in their bullpen- if he can get healthy.

Yes on Wetherholt
Yes on Church

Let Crooks win time share with Pozo in 2026
Baez is in AA, there is no rational argument to push him to the majors in 2025
Focus on Mathews should be simply keeping him healthy through end of season. A cup of coffee in the majors would serve little purpose

DFA for Mikolas now would be pretty dumb. At this point, just let him chew innings cause otherwise they’re really short. The money is spent and there’s nothing to gain.

Except for the guys that need to be added to the 40 anyway.

Saggese is lost at the plate, IMO. There's a point that more ab's have no benefit.
IF 2025 demonstrated anything about the catchers it would be that they don't have
a full-time one on the roster. When looking at them all as being part-time, I don't
have a clue who'll they keep. They seem to favor Pages which may fit if he sits most the time.
I don't believe they'll make it even messier by bringing anyone up.

I've missed guessing correctly for a while now with roster moves. I think if any pitcher
is brought up it will be one of the more recent additions, not the prospects.

JJ and a outside shot of Church. NA will get PT too.

I think it is more complicated than that. I think they also need to add, Bernal, Hjerpe, Blaze Jordan and Thompson when he comes off the 60 day IL as well. Since both Crooks and Church have to be added anyway this winter, it seems like they make the most sense to bring up this September. But, anyone that doesn't need to be added is unlikely to come up because they won't want to use the roster spot for that player, i.e. Wetherholdt. He will get added to the roster next spring when they can move one of Roby or Hjerpe back onto the 60 day IL.

Since they have at least 6 players to add, 3 open spots and plus Mikolas takes care of 4 of them. So they need at least 2 more to get to 40 but really 4 more to create room. Sianni, Hampson and Koperniak are obvious ones to get 3 of the 4 open. There are several pitchers that could go. But, if they put Wetherholdt on now, it creates another spot they lose this winter. I don't think they will do that, no matter how much we all want to see Wetherholdt.

Yes on Wetherholt and Church.
Most likely on Crooks.
Maybe on Mathews....would like to see him have a few more strong outings in Memphis first, though.

I see your thinking ICC, but I disagree on J.J.
He will get the same treatment as Winn did - they will bring him up and let him play enough but still keep his rookie status. There are plenty of 40 man fillers that csn easily be released and will never be missed.
