Those are the only two w/big upside that I'd hang on to.
I'd deal any of the other ML rostered players in the right trade.
(This list doesn't include any minor league players, of course JJ & Doyle are off limits too)
Rock buddy, we almost never disagree! But I would keep Winn and build that infield around he and JJ...
No sweat bcc, I always respect your (everyone's) opinions.
But I'd deal Winn if he brought back a #2 starter w/control.
I can live w/JJ at SS & Donny at 2B if Bloom could land that quality #2 starter.
Good stance. But I won’t trade an everyday SS who makes my infield a league best. I build with him JJ Herrera Donovan Walker.
Now add a bat and a TOr and a manager, we compete.
And the Cardinals won't trade him either (unless Bloom is overwhelmed w/an offer, but I'd bet he'll listen).
This is just all fun "what would you do" chat.
I think we all agree that we need a couple of GOOD SPs and a couple of GOOD OFers. Whether IH and Walker pan out next season, who knows. I doubt IH is traded. Walker (and Gorman) I am not so sure, but there probably is not a great market for either of them unless some team thinks they can fix them.

Winn is now top 20 (T-18th) in all of baseball in fWAR btw at 3.6.
I’d keep Winn and JJ and you’ve got a solid shot at having the best MIF in baseball in a couple years.
Add to that Scott and a catcher, maybe the best up the middle defensive team.

Yep. I’m not sold on VS2 being the long term starter at CF though. Maybe a 4th OF/defensive replacement. I’d like to see them give Nathan Church a shot. He’s supposed to be able to play all 3 OF positions and has been hitting the ball well this year.

Walker has some intriguing advanced stats. He hits the ball to center 48 percent of the time. His line drive rate, pull rate, opposite field rate, all around 21 percent.
Doesn’t pop up much or walk much. K about 31 percent.
This is during a down season. If he ever gets it together, he’d be a load.

I’m counting on Scott to hit better. He’s been given the proverbial runway. When he hits more for average, steals, we will be better off.

He’s #1 in all of baseball in OAA with +20. He’s got the best defensive rating of any non-catcher in baseball. 3rd overall among all of defenders. Patrick Bailey and Alejandro Kirk are the two catchers ahead of him.
I’d keep Winn and JJ and you’ve got a solid shot at having the best MIF in baseball in a couple years.
And the bulk of that fWar is from his defense.
Well aware of his OAA/DRS rankings.
Just more ammo showing he could bring back that #2 starter w/control.
I'm more than happy to run w/JJ at SS & Donny at 2B for the offensive upgrade.

Yeah, it's no hyperbole to put Winn on the same plane as Ozzie Smith, except Winn has a far superior arm. Strong and accurate. Only 3 errors to date at SS. Almost unheard of. You don't trade that away. And his bat, already average, could develop markedly.

I am thinking that Bloom is hoping that Ryan Mitchell becomes the Cardinals long term starter in CF. When they drafted the HS SS , they told him their intent was to play him in CF (not as infielder ). Note: According to Mitchell other MLB teams had told him they eyed him as CF long term.

While there are no untouchable players, I think there are players in the org who are very unlikely to be traded: Winn and JJ Wetherholt top the list.
Obviously this is a young, rebuilding team that will want to keep the best young players they develop.
