I don't remember anyone wanting to DFA him...
Big difference between the second-most successful pitcher in team history and some loser who ate a lizard once.
no there isn't
if a player stinks....ne need to go
history is irrelevant
Normally I agree. This organization/fanbase’s obsession with nostalgia is borderline pathological. But there are always exceptions, and making one for Waino was proper, especially since the team wasn’t going anywhere.
Could have done without the postgame concert, though.

Here’s my thought. 3 of the 4 prior starts, he pitched into the sixth inning; as a number five, in a rebuild, with no one to call up.
You’ll see him five days from now.
Here's what you got from those 4 starts:
6.00 ERA
6.83 FiP
No need for an "innings eating" batting practice pitcher on a going nowhere .500 team BDog.
These starts need to be going to young pitchers allowing them to 1) get major league experience and 2) be evaluated by C. Bloom.

Didn’t say I disagree. Said I see why he is getting starts.

Obviously Mikolas is not in the same camp as Wainwright.
Wainwright hadn’t already been one of the worst pitchers in baseball the previous 2 years prior to that last year, unlike Mikolas.
Mikolas over his last 89 starts: 25-33 5.06 ERA 484 IP 542 H 73 HR
not buying it
pro sports is a what have you done for me lately....two years priors is irrelevant
what wainwright did previously did not justify him stinking it up in 23
It was one bad season. They weren’t going to DFA a pitcher that was as successful as Wainwright when it was his last year. Especially once it got to the point where the season was done. Which really was before he even threw a MLB pitch that season. They were 10-23 that season before he even threw a pitch.
they wasted 17 million and more importantly a roster spot on an old washed up player
two things......
nothing exemplifies this dysfunctional organization than that
and some cards fan will bash Moz and the owner all day long.....but justify and defend a failing player
and some wonder why this club is in the toilet

They’re at Busch five days from now. Very, very few people will see him.
Good one drat

Waino was also 41 years old vs 36+ year old Mikolas.

I don't want to start Mathews if it means if it starts clock early.
But whatever the date is that doesn't start the clock (8/14? 9/1?) I'm all for releasing Miko

I don't
Waste of a starts not only for this "runway" season but for years:
Last 89 GS
5.06 ERA
Another Mo screw up extension.

The money was going to be “wasted” no matter whether they DFA’d him that year or not. He had a 3.71 ERA the previous season over 32 starts. Again, it’s not like this was Mikolas where he’s had a 5+ ERA over a 3 year period. The two aren’t remotely similar other than that they were/are RHP for the St. Louis Cardinals.

Season was already pretty underwater once Adam even made his first start.
Also, Adam was a legend on the team. Closed out a world series win, and pitched a heck of a lot of good seasons prior to. AND the season before, he was definitely above average.
Mikolas has done nothing here of note. He's essentially Kent Bottenfield except he never went away.
As for who to start? Well, I get not wanting to fudge around with arb clocks, but how about Wilkerson in AAA? Or that other guy they signed out of the Mexican leagues. I don't expect much, but they can't be worse. I've also been hearing a little scuttlebutt on Leahy starting, possibly. I mean, heck, if we're only going to get three innings out of this spot, why not make it three innings of likely decent pitching?

I’d rather see Oli Marmol or Mozeliak out there making the start than Mikolas at this point.

Each of those options are better than Miles. A bullpen start is more productive. ANYTHING is more productive.

Why the h e l l is Oli wasting starts on this guy?
He's not got any future at all with the 2026 team and certainly isn't a "runway" player.
If MO won't do his job and DFA him (today), then Oli needs to have the stones to pull him from the rotation.
I don't care if you give his starts to G. Graceffo, call up Q. Mathews or throw a bullpen game!
But in no way, shape or form should this clown Mikolas be given one more start.
Conjure up an injury, put him on the 60 day IL and let the clown sit in the dugout playing with his stupid hamburger phone.
if he agree to that, then stick him in the pen' as the mop up guy.
Do your job while you have one Oli, pull this batting practice pitcher from the rotation and use those starts to evaluate a true "runway" pitcher.
Enough wasted starts on Mikolas.
If you bring up Mathews now, aren’t you starting his clock early?
