I think you are spot on about BDW’s love of the game. Mo squandered hundreds of millions on lazy signings, and BDW lost Hope. He seems to have regained focus with hiring Bloom. Plus, he’s got ten or so partners that he needs to answer to. I’m very hopeful for the long term, after a new CBA.

I once added up Mo's squandered payroll money (poor free agent signings + bad extensions) and it came to over $500,000,000!

Spot on, Bill does seem to be going back to the model he used when he brought in J. Luhnow.

Mo was clearly in over his head as POBO. After TLR, Albert and Luhnow all left after the 2011 World Series win, the Cards boat sprang a leak. Mo flailed about, fell in love with the wrong players, stubbornly held on to too many, signed on for way too many sentimental farewell tours and lost the confidence of BDW and the fans. It’s a sad story, really. George Kissell, Red, Gibby and Lou are all gone now. It’s time to start a new era of Cards greatness, built from the ground up.

I’m just throwing this out there. Can his kids afford to keep the team? It’s easier to sell a team if you don’t have players under multi year multimillion dollar contracts. I’ve seen it before.
