Re: DFA Mikolas
It would be easy enough to place him on waivers.
But who does STL put in the rotation in his spot?
Stretch out Leahy?
Bullpen games?
Promote Mathews?
None are ideal solutions.
STL has little choice but to leave Mikolas where he is for at least another 3-4 weeks.

Probably not.Talkin' Baseball wrote: ↑06 Aug 2025 07:47 amDoes it matter?
Seriously, Curtis Taylor is a 30 year old depth starter at Memphis. He probably doesn't have a major league future, but has actually done a really nice job at Memphis. Give him his cup of coffee for the rest of the year as a reward. Do you really think we would be any worse off?
Nothing to lose. At this point just having someone to eat some innings.

Yeah, but that's not the same thing as the DeWitt and MO admitting a giant mistake and making MO look foolish on his way out the door.Bomber1 wrote: ↑06 Aug 2025 08:13 amEverybody in this town except Cranny, Tank, and Bretto already know John Mozekiak is an idiot. And that includes team ownership.Red Bird Classic wrote: ↑05 Aug 2025 22:16 pm Not gonna happen. It'd be like admitting MO is an idiot.
The Cards are very aware of how things look. And they'll cover for MO (as best they can) right up till the final day of the season.

Okay, that's funny!Bomber1 wrote: ↑06 Aug 2025 08:16 amThe genius Mozeliak doesn’t want to start Taylor’s ML clock yet, they would lose a year of control!Talkin' Baseball wrote: ↑06 Aug 2025 07:47 amDoes it matter?

Re: DFA Mikolas
We're never going to make the playoffs if they keep pitching Miles.
Re: DFA Mikolas
It’s been talked about how the culture of this team is, well, not good. Keeping guys like Miles around, just because he makes a lot of money, sends a clear message to the players, that ownership isn’t all in it to win. They need to give him his release and that would send the message that his performance isn’t good enough, and that they “ ownership “expects better. Cutting Miles lose and replacing him with one of the AAA pitchers, wouldn’t cost them much more than they are already on the books for, so that isn’t a valid reason to keep throwing him out there. And it’s been stated, how much worse could they be?
Re: DFA Mikolas
Release him and see if anyone will take a shot on him? I bet they are lined up like the lines at the Arch?

$55,750,000 in exchange for 1.5 WAR the past three seasons. We should all be so lucky.

That’s been BDW’s philosophy. It’s his decision to eat dollars not MO’s.
