Re: GDT : Cards @ Padres (8/1) ~ 8:40pm CDT
I was thinking about the line ups for the rest of the season, while I was mowing today. In August,
Gorman needs to play 5 out of every 6 games at 3rd base. Winn, Donovan, Scott, Walker, and Contreras can do the same at their positions. Burleson can DH 2/week, play RF when Walker is off, and play 1st base 2/week ( once when Contreras is off, and once when Willson DH’s). Herrera catches for Liberatore, DH’s 2/week, and plays LF 2/week. Nootbaar plays LF except on his day off and when he plays CF when Scott takes his day off. Saggese needs to play for Gorman, Donovan, and Winn once a week, preferably all in back to back games. Pages can catch for Gray, and Mikolas, while Pozo catches for Pallante and McGreevy.
Come September call up Crooks to catch 2, 3/week, and Wetherholt to play the 3 infield spots. If Matthew’s can keep pitching like he did today, maybe take a look at him.

I have the Padre announcers tonight.
On the pre-game show, their version of Alexa Datt interviewed A. J. Preller.
talk about impressive !!!
"you've got to spend money to make money"
you know, stuff like that.
ok, but here's what impressed me:
when talking about deadline acquisitions, he said "they picked up.....they picked up...."
never said "I picked up..."
never I
always team
must be nice Padres and Padre fans.
and he wasn't one bit snarky or smirky or smug

No reason to move him but you are right Scouty, I think he might have 1 hit in the last 5 or 6 games. He's been on base almost every game but he ain't hit for [shirt] in a good while...

I'm not sure why he didn't reach out for a grab on that hit. That looked pretty (bleep) lazy to me.scoutyjones2 wrote: ↑01 Aug 2025 20:56 pmNot good at 2b defense either.slimjay63801 wrote: ↑01 Aug 2025 20:54 pmNo reason to move him but you are right Scouty, I think he might have 1 hit in the last 5 or 6 games. must be a good sized yard ! good thoughts, though maybe just play JJ at 2B to make it easier to focus to start with, and will Herrera really catch any better if he is trying to learn LF at the same time? Might be better to just pick one spot.Hoosier59 wrote: ↑01 Aug 2025 20:31 pm I was thinking about the line ups for the rest of the season, while I was mowing today. In August,

Keep him. He's a great ballplayer. Gotta have guys like Donnie. The Org has to spend and get some Star Power. There's plenty other dead weight to drop. IMO.
