Ok it's actually a pretty funny article with the player comments. Thanks for posting

Admittedly not scientific

https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/640663 ... ed_article

Surprised that nobody posted the chart on managers they don't want to work for.
On Marmol

“I don’t really know many managers. I’m trying to think of someone in our division, just so I can say someone. Who is the Cardinals’ guy? … Yeah. Just put him down.”

I've been saying repeatedly that ownership allowed their brand to die. This is more clear evidence of that.
They got a lot of help from the worst MVP-duo ever of Goldy/Nado and what's likely a laughable "ace" signing in Gray.

If those 3 performed like they're getting paid to in 24 and 25 things could have been a lot different.

Didn't help that "everyone's buddy" Oli seems to extract about 50% or less from each of his players.

Ignoring data because you don't agree with it isn't the answer.
Friend,

Only 126 respondents. No profile for how many responded from which teams. Can't really conclude anything from the nice looking bar chart.

Can you link us to the full article? But I know folks get offended here when I ask for links and context. But if you want an honest discussion, ...

Never mind. I see the link now

Cheers.

Which manager, aside from your own, would you not want to play for?

40 votes
Oli Marmol tied for most votes (5) with Bud Black
Which organizations have good reputations among players?

“Teams that want to win, they give everything to the players,” one respondent said.

Said another: “You want to be where they spend money.”
The Cardinals have lost their national brand. Viewership (both in seats and through media channels) is way down. Players no longer view St. Louis as a place they want to play.

It stinks, and that's on ownership.

Heavily influenced by current results I'm sure. Funny to see Shildt and Marmol on the (bleep) list - two Cardinal guys. Both are known for being fundamental managers so perhaps the focus on "playing the right way" isn't loved. Also neither guy has MLB playing experience so maybe that's a demerit too

Gotta think the lack of playing experience counts for something with players. If you've done it before they're probably more likely to listen. Players don't always make great coaches, but they do inherently command a certain degree of respect.
