Any chance, hmmm.
When Lt. Kendrick spoke to the platoon and ordered them not to touch Santiago, any chance they ignored him?

No way, unless BDW wants to eat a lot of money. Bloom may want to, but it’s out of his hands.Jobu's Rum wrote: ↑01 Aug 2025 11:59 am I know it’s a lot of money, Karraker put it well, I couldn’t think of the words to put it until I heard it, but they need to see 3B position as a portfolio, you eat the money but think about what Gorman, Wetherholt, Saggese, Donny, Jordan at 3B could produce there as a whole.
Nado is washed, COOKED. Time to move on from his mess, or bench him, which is worse I think

They wont dfa him. First step is move him to bench role and then they might eat balf the remaining money to trade him for nothing(hed have to waive no trade clause but might if he was no longer starter). No chance of outright dfa

I guess, technically, they were trades. The cardinals not only paid $17M to move Leake, the also gave up $750k in international signing bonus money. All in return for a SS with a .295 OBP and never made a 40 man roster.
Fowler was traded for a player to be named later. That player was never made public
So, I guess you can call them trades in strictest sense of the term, but they really weren’t in practice.

Fowlers was close to dfa as we picked up almost the same salary as dfaing him. They did save more than dfa as angels did take a little more salary than league minimum.woofy25 wrote: ↑02 Aug 2025 07:17 amI guess, technically, they were trades. But leake wasnt close to dfa. Yeah we paid 17 mil to move, but leake was owed 48 million over next few years.
Dfaing leake would have meant eating the whole 48 mil minus league minimum a team signed him for next few years. Cardinals didnt even come close to doing that and would find a leake like trade way before dfaing arenado.

Actually a lot more, $37M (which is after the Rocks final -$5M)tubastarr wrote: ↑01 Aug 2025 14:57 pmIf Arenado continues to decline and is an offensive hole in the lineup blocking younger players, BDW Jr is eating $20M anyway.rockondlouie wrote: ↑01 Aug 2025 12:01 pm No
If BDWJr eats $20M, then Bloom can find a taker for him w/little more than a lotto ticket as the return.
Re: Any chance Bloom just outright DFAs Nado offseason?
seems that the best way to trade Arenado would be to find a team that also wants to unload a high salaried, under performing starting pitcher. I looked around and could not find any suitable target. Anyone else think of a candidate?

No way! I'm not so sure the Cards should move Nado until the Cards have an above average glove guy at 3B to replace him. Maybe Wetherholt is that guy. After a small sampling of watching Gorman's play at 3B, I am not sure the Cards would be confident in sticking him there. I do think Gorman's future with the team will be determined at the end of the season. Wetherholt will need to play somewhere on the infield that isn't SS. Winn has that one nailed down.
