Shouldn't it be a little embarrassing for an ex-catcher to play LEFT field? I don't doubt he can be "servicable" but you would think his arm would be good enough to park him out in right.

I seem to remember Manny Ramirez being adequate in LF when he was hitting.
When his hitting tailed off he became less than adequate.

All he needs to do is hit like Matt Holliday and we can tolerate if he plays LF like Matt Holliday.

Yes....why not????
His bat plays. So....if you move him out from behind the plate??
Which makes sense since he is below average defensively there and we are loaded with catching prospects.
Where does he fit??
DH is an obvious spot. But....if you don’t want to tie that position down with one man then you experiment with him at corner OF.
BTW....if he has physically held up catching I think he can handle LF??
As for his defense out there we’ll see?
Holliday and Duncan handled it.
Plus all everybody talks about is finding a RH OF!
I wonder? Is it a “coincidence” that his first start in LF is with one of the NL’s top ground ball pitchers on the mound??
+1. Plus he has legs. He can run.
A DH only Herrera is trade bait. Herrera viable at a defensive position or 2 is an asset.
I suspect Herrera will be fine in LF. I’m sure John Jay has been working with him on positioning and jumps. How bad could he be? We’ve had some pretty meh defensive LFers.
Matt Holliday and Chris Duncan come to mind.
holiday was a gold glover when he was young, duncan was about the worst I ever saw

Matt holliday was never a gold glover.
He wasnt bad defensively when he was younger and had more speed and stole bases but he never won a gold glove nor came close to it.
Ozuna maybe you are thinking of.

Running should be the concern. He’s a big man and he’s had three leg injuries in the past two seasons.

He'll have a better chance throwing out a runner from left than from behind the plate.

He should be mobile enough to cover ground in the outfield. His defense should be fine once he acclimates.
If you say he doesn't have a position then trade him and don't complain. A DH only player has diminished value.

Why is Herrera being placed in left field? Wouldn’t he be more effective as the DH? Or is there someone else we’re considering who might be a better fit for that role?
Genuinely curious, I’m not sure what the reasoning is.

He had one chance and caught it at the track, but it wasn't a perfect route. He was removed for defense after the Cards' big lead.

And the team signed one of them to the (still)largest free-agent contract the team has ever signed.
