There are only 2 current Cardinals I would not trade.
Winn and Walker. Especially if we're looking at 2027 to maybe be true contenders.
That's why Donovan is not on my no-trade list. He's a free agent in 2 years unless the Cardinals can extend him. Doubtful with payroll reduction mode probably coming. Also, Wetherholt could take over at 2B. Donny's bat doesn't really play in LF.
I’d roll Donny to 3b. Everyone has Gorman penciled in there. I don’t think his glove plays there and his bat still hasn’t shown enough consistency
This has nothing to do with BD being better than NG.
It’s about who you can get in a trade.
Which is why there’s no reason to trade JW unless he’s part of a package.

Yes - dependent on the return.
If he turns out to be a
.275
25-30HR
90RBI
Player then I’d assume no one trades him……how far below those numbers is he not tradeable.
What if he’s
.275
15HR, 65-70 RBI Player?
I would trade him.

Unless Walker is packaged in a blockbuster multiplayer deal, I would probably hold off at deadline and see how he plays in final two months.
With the added couple months starting, Bloom can make a decision this winter.
A package is the only way it happens I think. For now, play the outfield as you have it. Others (Baez) will be in the picture, and then if Gorman is put at 3rd, you'll have to have Wetherholt at 2B which puts Donovan out in LF.
So you have a group that includes Scott II, Donovan, Nootbaar(trade him yesterday please), Walker, Baez, and Burleson (because Herrera is DH).
There will be a point if Baez claims CF and Burleson hits too much to take him out of right, you're gonna have to move on from Walker and by that point (mid-2026) you will have given him plenty of time.

I would trade him. I would expect a haul of pitching prospects, but if someone offered that, I'd be happy for him to be someone else's problem.
And midseason might be the ideal time.

Need more power at 3B.

Contenders aren't looking for untapped potential in trades.

Your numbers where you would trade Walker .275 15HR 65-70 RBI
Are fairly similar to his rookie season where he had .276 16 HR and 51 RBI in 117 games.
If he played at that level for 150 game season, the HR with 33 added games would be 20+ and RBI about 70 range.

Full year stats. I think going forward the Birds require real actual corner OF production. Especially if Scott is CFer

Yeah, maybe. But right this very moment you can sell him as someone who is turning it around, and will benefit from a change of scenery.

This would seem to be the most intriguing question on the entire ML roster. Do you give up on the POTENTIAL now?
Still very young. Giant of a man who has gotten noticeably better in OF

Sure for the right return but realistically I just don’t see anyone giving the type of return to warrant it though.

The Cardinals trades Garcia, Arozarena, and Sosa but kept Bader, O'Neal, and DeJong.

I would not. I would give the new people we are onboarding time to see if they could correct the damage the outgoing leadership caused.
